Mine is catching up on me Diddy stories with video game dungeon (literal dungeon, like in a castle) music playing in the background + glass of wine and/or in combination with a nice vape topped with an obligatory sense of personal superiority hahah!

A while ago I was gifted a towel warmer, and it's just been collecting dust cuz for its intended purpose, it's worthless... like, it warms towels? the things hanging in the warm steamy bathroom? the humidity from the shower does that on its own...

Froze my ass off going from apartment to car a few weeks ago, it it clicked that we literally own a little clothes oven! So now when I wake up, first thing I do is turn it on and shove my coat and a beanie into that fucker, then by the time I'm ready to leave, my gear is like fresh-out-of-the-dryer toasty, so I put on my shell of pure heat, and I've got a little thermal bubble that follows me to my car. By the time it wears off, the car's heater is starting to kick in.

Mornings this winter have been a lot more comfortable that previous years!

My house is heated with hot water radiators. One of the best things I ever did was install a towel holder in my bathroom that was plumbed into the hot water. In the winter, my towels are always dry and toasty.

My wife bought me a very expensive mechanical watch as a gift, which I myself would never even think of looking at in a shop. First I was like, what the hell am I supposed to do with that? I already have a smart watch!

But god damn it's growing on me.

  1. Because it's such high quality it doesn't scratch and looks absolutely stunning even after wearing it constantly for month. Normally I put scratch resistant stickers on it and stuff but they scratch everywhere they touch anything. This one nothing at all.
  2. And this is so huge to me and I never realized it, I never have to charge it, it just always works. It glows in the dark a bit because of the fluorescent clock hands too.

I kid you not, this is so amazing, every time I want to know the time it just works for months without charging and it looks beautiful.

Yeah, that's my luxury.

If you haven’t read it, this blog post greatly increased my appreciation for mechanical watches: https://ciechanow.ski/mechanical-watch/

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

I love mechanical watches, and I’ve had watches since before smart watches were a thing. The idea of a watch becoming obsolete is so absurd to me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

I have a Panerai kinetic winding watch, and I can’t explain how much I love wearing it. There’s a certain old world, rare craftsmanship to it that I can feel the weight of on my wrist, and hear when I hold it to my ear. Somehow it makes me appreciate time passing and the value of making the most of it.

I recently quit drinking... so much. I allow myself one fancy Belgian beer each night

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Hopefully soaked up by an accompanying snack 😈

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I sprung for a takeout burger from a nearby bar today. I’d been dreaming and obsessing about it for three days. $20 later…at least my obsession is cured! (It was pretty damn good though.)

Everyone needs a weekly iron overdose

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

It was an Impossible Burger…do those have iron too? Now I’m curious…hmm…

ETA: Yes! They have about 25% of your recommended daily iron. TIL

Similarly, we got a burger and fries on the way home from a wedding I was obligated to attend last weekend. Made up for how much I didn’t want to be there in a nice way.

Food not from a food bank....

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Friday night, sourdough italian bread, camembert cheese, some pesto and a VERY expensive bottle of olive oil that I only use for this (I don't like wine and olive oil is my "wine").

Everything goes in a nice tray and I turn on some series or movie that I want to see, usually horror to mood it out.

The amazingness of being single!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Whatchya watching horror wise lately?

I bought a dehumidifier last week and having clothes dry over one night is fantastic.

Coffee. The Internet told me it's going to get insanely expensive so I like to savor it while I can.

The fact that I'm not on a UHC plan.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Samesies! I'm Canadian and for both my public singlepayer and private plans I've only ever been delayed but immediately instructed what minor extra bullshit was needed (super infrequently) how to get it approved and paid like right away. Or at worst it was at least subjectively super easy to figure out. This shit i hear about is insanity, and thats not even starting on prescription+refill bullshit you poor bastards take on the chin regs

Working 60 hours a week so your cats can have premium Dr Elsey Litter™, your kids can get Hot Wheels Ultimate Garages™ and Barbie Dreamhouses™ for Christmas, and so you never run out of Pampers™. And so you can get a premium comfort banana cleaner device for cheap. May your cats be happy, your kids scream as if they got a NINTENDO 64!!!!! Oh My GAWD!!!!!!!, your babies be dry and comfy, and your bananas be clean.

But to really answer the question, riding a $1000 e-scooter I bought for $600 and eating meals that cost between $30 and $60. And saving for future rent WHEN I fucking win a housing lottery. Thanks Amazon!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Please tell me: what is a banana cleaner device?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A device that cleans the outside of bananas, of course. What else could it possibly be? The most popular ones have multiple settings for deep cleaning, are portable, and rechargeable so it's ready every time you need to clean a banana.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Right, that's what I figured.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I love eating semi-expensive 12 month aged Manchego Cheese with Zapps Jalapeno chips, and super cheap Tecate beer. Feel free to substitute your cheep mexian beer and jalapeno chip brand to your taste but the cheese needs to be aged, good, and hard.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

This ^^^. I like their Voodoo chips. For Jalapeno chips I eat Miss Vickie's. I have a very sharp asiago sliced cheese from a local Italian deli that works, or smoked cheddar gourmet.

Getting new clothes, but they look good so its fine

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Japanese Plum Sake/Wine. Recently discovered this and it's one of my favorite alcoholic drinks right now, it's so god damn good!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

What would you compare it to tastewise + nonalcoholic? Like rice or something more fermented?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Closest is sweet wine I guess. Not sure what nonalcoholic I could compare it to.

I really hate when I am in VR and the realization of how first world spoiled I am creeps in, even though I myself am living on the edge of poverty and using the VR to escape reality.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Custom music, crafted to my interests and tastes and sung specifically for me. Most of the music is never heard by another living being, it's completely mine.

A luxury that I wouldn't have predicted possible just two years ago, now anyone can have it.
