What do you think of it ? https://neodb.social/discover/

I'm getting phone calls from my health insurance company, first from a "registered nurse" with no information in the voicemail other than a call-back number (seems like it could be a scam, but I need to verify the number, so far people are saying the number is legit), and now I have a second phone call where the voicemail mentions they are calling from the insurance company's "concierge program".

Mostly I want to know if I can ignore these calls without consequence, or if I have to return them, and if so what should I expect?

You know, "hatch". But it's funnier saying door. Could a ship just dock with it, equalise pressure, and open the hatch? Or is there some sort of security? I tend to think 'no' because of a macabre situation where the crew are dead and the station is being recovered. But it's amusing to think in space they don't need to keep the doors locked.

Good evening, Lemmy,

I recently got into Insane Clown Posse and, as a result, into Juggalo culture. Since acceptance, respect, and support are such important ideals among Juggalos, I was wondering:

Are Juggalos, therefore, allies of the LGBTQ+ community?

Since I live in Germany and have yet to meet someone who even likes ICP in my country, I have basically zero contact with Juggalos. So, everything I know comes from what I've read online, and I was wondering how this translates into real life.

Primarily I'm wondering if certain instances have reputations that might color what people think about my community just by virtue of it being hosted on a particular instance.

There's also the question of instance-wide content moderation or something, not like I'm trying to be edgy, but like some instances might not like curse words or discussions about heavy topics like suicide, or something.

Also I'm wondering if it's somehow harder for people from other instances to find communities (I understand that subscribing is easy, but finding may be different?)

Appreciate details...

I guess due to luck with circumstances, this is often an issue for me. I wonder how normal it is. I was joking about this today with someone and comparing it to the scene from The Simpsons where Mr. Burns wakes up from being shot and randomly starts yelling Homer's name when asked who shot him. Thirty minutes later someone tried to confront me because I seemed like the most likely candidate for who stole their mail.

Last job killed my love of IT, management beat it out of me. Wonderful company, demotivated by my manager from the first week. Couldn't be a nicer guy, smartest tech I've ever met, Peter Principled his was into management.

Never been paid that much, took about every Friday off on PTO, total WFH, can't say what my benefits cost but it wasn't $100/mo. in total. My last job was half the pay and benefits, was so much happier. I think of that every time I read a comment about why companies need to pay more to satisfy us. Everyone should have a look at this. Had ALL that at my penultimate job, NONE at the most recent.

I feel so weird, especially at this time of life with a solid resume, interviewing for PT work at Lowe's. Thinking I'll be happier than a pig in shit spending 4 hours a day, just walking around helping people, doing what ever bullshit I'm asked to do. Looking to see how it goes, see if there are ways to work myself up to FT, better schedule, supervisor, whatever.

Thought about "retiring" to work in a hardware store to keep busy and fit, but not for a decade+. Excepting my credit card bills, and what my wife sends home to the Philippines, she makes enough to cover everything. Won't take much to take the edge off.

I love hardware and tools and plants, about everything they sell. Hoping to learn a lot as well. Helping people is really satisfying to me, and I'm excellent at handling customers. LOL, I'm best with the angry ones, sometimes get them apologizing. :)

Need a sanity check, am I losing it!? Been through the worst depression of my life the past few years, hoping this will break me back into a normal state of mind.

EDIT: Got the job! Holy shit, the assistant manager is just like me! Dropped out of tech to take a minimum wage job at Lowe's 8 years ago, now he's at $90K. We've even done much of the same work in the IT space. "I did DSL for Bellsouth when it was new!" "Yep, did my time as a cable internet guy."

Seems to be a lot of space and opportunity to move up. I'm going to knock this out the fucking park!

BONUS: Clerk at the shady gas station overhead me telling my neighbor about quitting IT and getting hired today. Guy ask me what I did in IT, gave him a run down. "Yeah. I was a web dev for 20-years, couldn't take staring at a screen any more."

As a loner, virgin, never in a relationship male adult, it's something I'll never experience. So do your best explain it to me, so I can feed that little of imagination left on me.

Cats, dogs, bears, owls, weasels. Most of them could seriously injure/kill an average human with minor difficulty and yet we find them adorable?

Does not compute.

I created this thread knowing full well both arguments so don't fucking come at me.

I heard Tuta/Mullvad are quantum-resistant end-to-end encrypted and that Mullvad VPN is better at avoiding trigging captcha.

While Proton services are hosted in Switzerland which has the strongest privacy laws in the world and avoids the surveillance of NATO.

I saw a post that talked about racism towards people and when I talked about it the response I got was very heated and a person even called lemmy.world a community of 'hitlerites'

I have been around for a week or so and this is my first time seeing such explicit vulgar reaction towards another community, is this a one-off or should I block hexbear?

Can they rush in after the first two words, before you say "not"? Can they enter if they stuff their ears before they hear the final word?

Like, you just look weird if you sitting by yourself (example: waiting at a bus stop) and just stairing into space, so like its basically social expectation to be on your phone when you are by yourself.

Plus, just feels like if you don't have a phone on you, you are missing a lot of information (access to the internet, maps, etc.) that you might need in case you get lost or something.

Any topic is good. Don't care about format or where it's published as long as I can access it (substack, random PDF, journal, etc). Looking for deep and rare thought, but essay length for a short reading.

EDIT: Also I am particularly looking for stuff not as much in online or nerd culture.
