[Update - March 3rd 2024 , 21:14 CET]

The update seems to have worked well. The database migration took some time, but after that it looks everything works as far as we tested. Let us know what you think! And if you like our work, check the donations links in the sidebar ;-)

(As you might notice, the new comments are shown YELLOW, that's not a bug, it's apparently a new feature in Lemmy...)

Hey everyone,

We wanted to announce that we will be attempting to upgrade Lemmy.World to version 0.19.3 on Sunday. The update will start at 2024-03-03 1900 UTC and should hopefully take no more than 2 hours. In the event there are issues, we will roll back to 0.18.5. In the event of a roll back, any data created by users will be lost, so we'll try our best to avoid this!

Hopefully downtime should be minimal <3

During the upgrade, please feel free to make yourself at home on our Matrix and Discord chat rooms.

Thanks for your patience in waiting for us. Stability is king for us!

Yaaaay

Are there any big instances still on the old versions then?

Also if anyone has issues, try logging out and back in. It was required when we moved, and not all apps indicate that you need to do that.

It's because 0.19 changed some authentication thing. It won't always be necessary

Only ones left on the 0.18 versions are beehaw and blahaj

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

Blahaj has plans to update before Voyager stops supporting 0.18. I don't remember the exact date, but it's sometime in March.

Can’t upvote today, and my account seems to be labeled as a bot.

Go to https://lemmy.world/settings and turn off "Bot account".

You show the bot icon to me, do you have your account configured as bot?

Please click the squares with traffic lights :P

Why would the upgrade equate to more monthly active users?

[–] [email protected] 72 points 8 months ago

It's an increase in reported monthly users, as now activity like voting is also considered, not just posts/comments.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Version 0.19 counts votes as active users.

Previous version only counted comments and posts

Oh thank you for explaining

Finally, no more weird &amp or whatever it was

My voyager login stopped working on both lemmy.world and lemmy.ml. I had guessed that was from the upgrade. I had to find and re-enter my passwords, slight PITA. I hope that won't become a regular thing.

That's usually the case for upgrades like this. They only happen every few months, so you should be fine

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

We reached 49k monthly active users, nice increase on https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/dailystats

As you might notice, the new comments are shown YELLOW, that’s not a bug, it’s apparently a new feature in Lemmy…

I made the feature request to add incremental reading , but the method they use seem like non of the methods i suggested (I think it highlights all comments after X minutes) and I think that is a way that is useful to no one, If the instance owners of lemmy.world think it is not good maybe they could provide feedback on the issue, or at least request an option to disable it, the owners seem like they are in a good position to collect feedback.
