I also remember seeing articles about how the design was meant to be very simple because it was going to be cost effective, and that they were experimenting with a manufacturing technique that would work better on Mars

Yea nope.

Instead now Slate Auto seems to be going for the cost effective minimalistic truck

The idea is that people can block what they don't want to see. Some users/communities/instances are more open, and others are more closed off. There's nothing stopping you from finding a place that aligns with what you want

If someone doesn't want to interact with you, you're not going to accomplish anything by forcing them to interact with you.

Yes, sorry about that

That lines up, the photos I saw were from 2021. Looking forward to seeing the old EB Games signs lol

Neat! Did all the EB Games disappear, or were they still around? I see some photos on Google maps that are listed as being from a few years ago.

JAMP Pharma Corp., a Quebec pharmaceutical maker, is recalling one lot of JAMP-Pregabalin pain medicine because bottles labelled to contain 50-milligram capsules may contain 150-milligram capsules instead.

Health Canada announced the recall in an unusual Saturday evening statement.

The announcement said the company’s mix-up could lead to patients taking a much larger dose of the painkiller than prescribed, possibly resulting in an overdose that could “pose serious, potentially fatal health risks.”

JAMP-Pregabalin is an adult prescription drug. It is used to treat pain caused by nerve damage due to diabetes, shingles or spinal cord injury. It is also used to treat pain associated with fibromyalgia, Health Canada said.

The recall affects one lot of the 50-mg capsules bearing lot number 2305012747, which carries a 2026-08 expiry date, Health Canada said.

Health Canada stressed that taking too much pregabalin or suddenly increasing the dose could potentially lead to patients overdosing, which can be life-threatening.

The annotation system could benefit from federation. Users can submit any interpretation, and some of them will need to be moderated.

I can't think of a format that would be compatible with other fediverse platforms. While it would be nice to be able to annotate from existing accounts or follow new updates to a song from Lemmy/Mastodon, the specifics would be complicated. Do people follow artists, albums, songs, lines of text? Sometimes people will want to annotate a single word, and other times a whole paragraph

However, the lyrics themselves would be better off with a system like Wikipedia

I'm not familiar with these communities, but you can also cross post this to [email protected]. That community is good about discussing which community to post in, and maybe organize some collective effort to lock a few of them to redirect efforts to a particular one.

Once you decide on one, it might also help to do the following:

  1. Post in the selected community
  2. Crosspost to larger spaces like [email protected]
  3. Leave a comment in the crosspost linking back to the community

That way people can discover the community over time

I came across this article, and I don't think it has been posted yet. It is not a new announcement, and the article is from last month.

The Canadian space program is growing at a hypersonic pace.

NordSpace, the Ontario-based space tech startup, is establishing the Supersonic and Hypersonic Applications Research Platform (SHARP), which aims to grow the country’s hypersonic capabilities with three new products.

  • SHARP Arrow: A fixed-wing, rocket-powered, uncrewed aircraft built for research, reconnaissance, and intercept missions, capable of launching from and landing on a standard airport runway.
  • SHARP Sabre: A modified version of the company’s suborbital Taiga rocket, which held a successful rocket engine test in January, updated to reach hypersonic speeds with larger payloads on board.
  • M2S-HyRock: A 3D-printed, multi-fuel, multi-purpose liquid regeneratively cooled rocket engine, built to provide the industry with a storable rocket engine.

“There’s been a lot more interest in national sovereignty and understanding what our own capabilities are here, so that we’re more resilient at home, but also, in NordSpace’s opinion, more capable allies to partners like the United States,” Rahul Goel, NordSpace’s CEO, told Payload.

In February, Canada announced a new defense policy, which committed the country to invest 2% of its GDP into national security by 2032. Canadian defense spending is expected to grow by C$73B ($51.1B) over 20 years, including a C$8.1B ($5.67B) increase in the next five years alone.

SHARP will help Canada develop and test next-generation hypersonic tech, build out its fleet of monitoring aircraft, improve its responsive launch capabilities, and get better at detecting rocket and missile launches from above.

“[It’s] really important to get eyes in the sky as quickly as possible, especially in our Arctic, which is almost entirely undefended relative to other parts of the nation. So, a key element of all our hardware, especially these two vehicles, is that they’re being optimized for extreme cold weather environments like the Arctic,” Goel said.

What’s next: NordSpace is building Canada’s first commercial spaceport—Spaceport Canada—which is expected to be operational for the company’s first test launch of its Taiga suborbital rocket this year. At the same time, NordSpace is working on a larger orbital vehicle, named Tundra, which it hopes to demonstrate with a flight test in 2027.

Spaceport Canada will have two launch pads, one each for suborbital and orbital launches. While the company plans to use the spaceport for its own rocket tests and flights, it’s also hopeful that it will attract foreign launchers to the great white north.

Well, it sounds like a course on election disinformation, with a catchy title

We’ll start by breaking down the basics of what foreign interference is and why countries meddle in each other’s elections in the first place. Next, we’ll dive into the legal issues surrounding foreign interference under Canadian and international law. We’ll also investigate the high-stakes world of cyber interference, exploring the use of cyberattacks, such as hacking and phishing, to disrupt democracy. Finally, we will look at the critical role of social media in shaping electoral outcomes through disinformation campaigns and learn how to recognize the signs of manipulation on the TikTok “For You Page”.

Back in school, I remember doing an activity where we got a map of points and we had to gerrymander it to make one side win, and then the other side, and finally decide on a "fair" way to divide up the region. It was a great way to explain the concept.

I'd rather students are aware of the techniques that are used so that they're more likely to spot them in the wild

Scientists estimate that up to 70% of the sand on white sandy beaches in the Caribbean and Hawai‘i has been excreted by parrotfish. A large adult parrotfish can excrete over a ton of sand per year. Areas that have parrotfish produce more sand than similar areas with few or no parrotfish. This sediment production rate is especially important in areas like Hawai‘i, where there is little terrestrial input, and almost all of the sand is of biogenic origin.

Synology's telegraphed moves toward a contained ecosystem and seemingly vertical integration are certain to rankle some of its biggest fans, who likely enjoy doing their own system building, shopping, and assembly for the perfect amount of storage. "Pro-sumers," homelab enthusiasts, and those with just a lot of stuff to store at home, or in a small business, previously had a good reason to buy one Synology device every so many years, then stick into them whatever drives they happened to have or acquired at their desired prices. Synology's stated needs for efficient support of drive arrays may be more defensible at the enterprise level, but as it gets closer to the home level, it suggests a different kind of optimization.

Hopefully that title wasn't too clickbait, here is the article and details.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/south-africa-bird-island-eastern-cape-helicopter-crash-penguin/

Tldr:

South Africa helicopter crash blamed on penguin in cardboard box that hit pilot's controls

Everyone was ok:

The aircraft sustained substantial damage but the pilot and passengers were uninjured, according to the incident report. The penguin was also unharmed, the report noted.

How it happened:

The pilot and passengers were conducting an aerial survey flight of an island off South Africa's Eastern Cape on January 19, 2025. The helicopter safely landed on Bird Island. Before departing, one of the passengers, who the incident report referred to as a "specialist," asked that they transport one of the penguins on the island back with them. The pilot agreed, and the penguin was placed in a cardboard box.

When the helicopter was at an altitude of around 50 feet, the cardboard box slid off the passenger's lap -- onto the pilot's cyclic pitch control lever, the incident report said. The helicopter rolled to the right. The pilot could not recover, the incident report said. As the aircraft descended, the main rotor blades of the helicopter struck the ground, and the helicopter landed on its side, about 60 feet from where it had taken off.
