Friendly reminder that getting vaxxed is free. My partner has a shitty immune system so I got two rounds of boosters.
Here in Alberta all you need to do is call 811 and they can book you in with a vaccine specialist.

I feel this map is purposely leaving out Ontario which has about as many measles cases per capita having 3x the amount of cases as Alberta
Well Ontario is not western Canada as this map is titled but your point is taken.
Actually, I'm not sure Manitoba or Saskatchewan are western Canada either.
I'd say Sask is, less sure about Manitoba.
Depends on the east according to this week's CFL.
I see you're off-instance, so just so you know we have a fledgling [email protected] community on here
If you ask Costco it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Winnipeg is called the "gateway to the west"
Ontario is home of 'The Convoy' we know how dumb we look.
It’s amazing how the virus knows to specifically target people who don’t believe in science.
The devil (or God) is testing them. Resist! No need to test those who rely on science, they already failed.
I think some of the inferences here are missing a piece.
Conservative governments may both be reflective and encouraging of far-right conspiracy theories and lifestyles.
But this isn't about individual choice to get vaccinated. It isn't even really about community sentiment. it is about public policy to enforce vaccination. Not just what's written on paper, but what actually happens.
it isn't just the current provincial government you have to look at. You need to look at the past 10-20 years of provincial and municipal governments. And those appointed to various health related intermediary organizations by the governments themselves.
Indeed. This isn’t just current conservatism, it’s also the last 40 years of Neoliberalism that considers things like public health to “cost money” rather than save lives. Just another one of those “nice to haves” when the budget allows.
I was in the impression (read somewhere) that most case are in religious enclaves ?
Well, as long as it's not ridiculously contagious, we can have a little measles in our religious enclaves.
As a treat
I was in the impression (read somewhere) that most case are in religious enclaves ?
Yes you were. I'm assuming so, anyway, but I thought you may need an answer to your question.
Most of Alberta is a weird self-flagellating bunch of faith-voters, so they essentially qualify.
No, we're not. It's the third least Christian province or territory.
It's the most conservative province for other reasons. The biggest thing I see where I live is blind tradition, but massive oil sector and agricultural employment also has an impact.
Interesting, today I learned.
Oh and that’s one more reason why BC is awesome, it’s the least Christian region!
It's like there is a significant overlap between the people who allow organized religion to dictate their world views and people who believe in anti vax conspiracy theories or something.
I know in Manitoba two of the "hotspots" were reportedly from Gretna (pretty religious) and a church in Winkler.
Thanks for the info! Going to Manitoba this summer, hopefully Winnipeg is spared from this haha
We've been keeping track of the outbreaks and our government has been providing updates through https://news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.html?item=69301&posted=2025-05-23 (That's the latest update so far. I would check back there before you come just to keep up to date on things as they progress.)
Edit: Also measles Exposures in Mb https://www.gov.mb.ca/health/publichealth/diseases/measles-exposures.html
Good resource, I'll keep an eye on it, thank you!
No problem. I also added another resource that lists measles exposures around the province https://www.gov.mb.ca/health/publichealth/diseases/measles-exposures.html
https://health-infobase.canada.ca/measles-rubella/
Notice how the ndp and liberal controlled provinces have lower cases of Measles such as BC, NB and NL.
(not adjusted per capita)
Wasn't there a massive outbreak in Quebec a bit ago? I guess they do have a conservative government right now, but I feel like that contradicts the spirit of this.
At a community level you're almost certainly right about how the people vote, but those pockets are all over the place.
The CAQ who control Quebec are conservatives.
Shit, you answered before my ninja edit.
Yes, I know. I wouldn't really call it a conservative province, though, and I don't think the Quebec outbreak happened because of the 2018 election.
Isn't MB's Wab Kinew NDP?
The one thing I'll say is religion still seems to have quite a grip on that province, they have a lot of hyper-religious pockets there in my experience.
Isn’t MB’s Wab Kinew NDP?
That's true however they just started cleaning up the mess since 2023.

Yes, that makes sense as hyper-religious beliefs can cause people to make questionable decisions.
Fucking knuckle draggers.
I'm not Canadian so I don't know how this is gonna land but here goes:
Ha, Canada thought they could avoid a "South" like the US by setting the province borders that way. Instead they got Alberta.
(If I was Canadian my comeback would be: Nah, Canada has a backwards ass "South". It's called the USA.)
My guy. Be confident, own your joke! You don't need to be shy. It's inly a bunch of assholes on the internet who owe you nothing. So don't be shy to offend. Besides it's only berta, those ostrich fuckers can frig right of.
Thanks! I'm American and didn't want to offend. We've done enough to Canada recently, though I am Minnesotan so hopefully that gets me a little cred in CA.
Ah, the Canadians of the US. Of course you get some cred
I heard it was a sick ostrich
I’m an Albertan. We aren’t quite as bad as the states but… yeah. We joke about our hillbilly fuckwits here too.
As a reformed Northern Albertan, it's all South.
Just send the joke. If it's mean spirited, we'll know.
Please separate!
We won’t. It’s not as popular here as the internet makes it seem.
In general, the Alberta stereotype is exaggerated. Kind of like the Texas stereotype is in the US.
Yeah. That’s not to say that it isn’t prevalent but there’s a large mix of political ideologies around here. The oilfield guys and the religious towns skew it in our voting. But as a guy who’s worked camps there’s a lot more progressive ideology out here than you’d think.
I heard they want to take bc if they seperate, now way am I putting up with such a waste in money as to let measels take hold
Free to take a fat fuckin L
