Russian propaganda has been targeting Ukrainians even more aggressively lately. It’s horrifyingly noticeable when I talked to other Germans lately. People who normally have a working head on their shoulders are blurting the most blatant racist rants now. It depressingly mirrors what Germans were saying about Jews in the 1930s and I’m only barely exaggerating. Envy towards the bottom is one of our society’s worst diseases and it’s spreading rapidly.

My mum too, very xenophobic, spouting half-digested arguments about them using up all our money. And she came to this country as an adult, and heavily relied on support the first few years (well, relied or not, it was given). Once they give into Facebook etc. their brains become malleable like rotten fruit.
It's scary how quickly they radicalize now, isn't it? My "favorite" (meaning most baffling) take is that Ukrainians supposedly get doctors appointments so fast, implying that they "steal" appointments from German patients. As you might have guessed: Said doctor is an Ukrainian refugee themself most of the time. I know one myself who practices nearby with a local doctor. These geniuses don't realize their cries for deportation will mean even longer waiting lists for many Germans. Congratulations, leopards ate your faces.
Yep. My current dentist is Ukrainian. And she's good.
Anyhow, I wouldn't call my mum radicalized*, just a general mood of complaining about everything. She spends too much time looking at this stuff and then thinks that's just how people talk nowadays. And she has no concept of fact-checking or even an inkling of which news to trust and which not. If it comes from a "friend" it's by default more trustworthy than me saying "well maybe that statistic doesn't even exist, or if, it says something very different". That said if we sat together I might be able to talk some sense into her, but we live far apart.
* though I'm thinking with discomfort who she might have voted for
Well that one was invented by the likely new Chancellor Friedrich Merz claiming it first about African and Arab refugees and migrants.
It was only a matter of time until the sentiment would be expanded towards Ukrainians. This goes to show that Merz & co. maybe care about Ukraine as a state buffering between Russia and NATO, but they don't care about Ukrainians as people, like they don't really care about any humans that aren't "useful" to them.
“Envy toward the bottom” so well said. People are so disappointing.
I didn't read the op. But Ukrainian refugees have a special state in Germany. This is probably about lifting that. While this certainly is worse for them, I doubt that it is really bad. If they for from the war they can still come to Germany.
Its a pretty bad headline.
The survey found 77% in favour of ceasing to pay the standard social security benefit normally paid to German citizens in need of assistance to Ukrainian refugees as well. The Ukrainians should instead receive the lower payments for asylum seekers.
So they are being downgraded to refugee status, which is what they are...
Its quite odd that Ukranians were being handled differently in the first place.
Its as if they were deemed to have more value than those pesky normal refugees.
If you are worried about Ukrainians not receiving enough money after this change, then the appropriate response is calling for a raise of payments for refugees.

Here in Germany during the "refugee crisis" 2015 I noticed a heavy uptick in ticket controls in the public transport, while as with Ukrainians during 20222 the public transports advertised on billboards that Ukrainian refugees can drive for free. Biggest difference between the two groups? The skin color...
I know it is only anecdotal but to me it was noticeable.

I didnt wanna type it out, but yes that is most likely it.

Interesting. For me, the biggest difference between both was the value and rights a woman has in their culture.
Edit: Let’s write it more clearly. It is how they treat woman.
And that has what to do exactly with bus tickets?
Good question. You might ask Lupus
Ah yes, any non ukrainian refugee is a raping sexist murderer...
People that think like you are the reason why we have Nazis in government again.
What do you think about circumcision of women (Beschneidung), femicide, forced marriage, and not shaking/ touching hands of women? Not to say to cat calling women.
Is it Nazi to defend this in our country?
Or are you just a standard male who doesn’t think beyond his own Schniedel?
Since the standard social security benefit is considered to be the minimum that is necessary to live a life in basic dignity, the lower rate for asylum seekers is a whole problem to begin with. Even more so as asylum seekers for the most part are prevented from seeking legal employment.
I think that's roughly 440€ vs 560€ for a single person, if you want some numbers. Accomodation, heating and electricity is separate and already paid for.
So can we back plans on limiting the maximum income of insanely rich people next, such that we make meaningful investments in education, infrastructure, healthcare etc.? Or do we want to keep kicking those already lying on the ground?
@Zacryon @schizoidman first problem here: insanely rich people don’t have a high income. They use excising stocks and co. to take loans so that they don’t need to pay tax on it. They maybe get dividends from stocks but that’s also normally not needed. E.g. Steve jobs only got 1$ as Payment at Apple for his role as a CEO. Not because he was so invested in his company, but because he got a lot of stocks which were lower in taxes then the actual payment.
Just treat capital income as income. That people pay less tax on doing nothing just owning stocks is absurd to begin with.
And if we take the Quandts for example (large owners of BMW and major profiteers of BMW supplying the Nazi war machine) they usually make in excess of 1,000,000,000 € every year on their BMW stocks.
We need to limit the ~~income~~ gains in wealth of rich people.
