Federal immigration agents arrested an immigrant as he was leaving court on the first day of his trial in Massachusetts on Thursday, with a judge now holding one agent in contempt for disrupting due process.

Plainclothes U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents showed up at the court in Boston and took Wilson Martell-Lebron without prior notice, according to The Boston Globe.

Even if you believe that horrible people don't deserve due process, you cannot determine that without due process.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Martell-Lebron was, in fact, Juan Carlos Baez, 49, a Dominican national in the U.S. illegally since 2000

So even if you’re a legal non-Spanish person, they will give you a Spanish name and say you’re illegal

ICE told Newsweek

You left this important part of the quote. And no where in the article does it provide any proof of that claim, for anyone wondering.

This feels like a gag out of Family Guy or South Park or something. Good thing people are protesting!

NO TRIAL FOR YOU.

Why didn't the bailiff stop the kidnapping? Isn't he armed for this reason?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 hours ago

The headline is misleading, he was picked up as he left the building his trial was continuing to the next day.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

It was right outside the courtroom. Since there are breaks and sometimes multi day trials, there are ways a defendant could be "in the middle of a trial" and not be in the actual courtroom, where the bailiff would be.

"

You dropped this. Funny, this is the second one I've picked up today.

Unlawful arrests lead to people fighting back, and officers getting hurt. Not a good direction to be going.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 hours ago

Sure would suck if the ICE agent, Brian Sullivan, who was held in contempt by the judge and for whom a bench warrant was issued, was beaten with a bat until compliant with being arrested and dragged into custody. Would just be a travesty.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 8 hours ago

Ice officers deserve worse than just to be hurt tbf

[–] [email protected] 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

People fighting back vs. The police that has tanks... TiananMcDonals...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago

That's some revolutionary war style tactics. Warfare has changed.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 18 hours ago

IDK, the second half of that first sentence sounds like a good thing, and long overdue

So the message is ...... if you are contacted by any law or legal service in the US .... hide and disappear, don't take part in anything to do with government or law enforcement.

Great work America ... a few more steps and it will become a completely lawless country.

lol .... I never comment on emojis but these were funny

[–] [email protected] 59 points 1 day ago

Oh there will be law. Just not the law we're used to.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 day ago

No way those denied a legal path will turn to organized crime. Unpossible!

Copied my comment from an earlier link to this article:

So the guy who got picked up is currently detained without charge, after having his original charges dismissed. Brian Sullivan, the ICE agent, was held in contempt, which might turn into a charge, and is currently free.

Certainly sounds like Brian Sullivan is enjoying his due process while denying others theirs.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I don't care how evil you are what you did. You deserve due process as that is a basic human right.

We need rule of law especially now more than ever

[–] [email protected] 23 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

That's the thing people seem to miss (although they seem to be coming around a bit). What you did or how evil you are can only be determined by due process.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

What you did or how evil you are can only be determined by due process.

Yes. Without due process for everyone, no American is 'innocent until proven guilty'. You are guilty until they decide otherwise.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Without due process for everyone, no ~~American~~ person is 'innocent until proven guilty'.

FTFY

It's amazing how many people think you need to be a citizen of the US to have due process.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

We are in agreement. Either everyone has the right to due process, or there is no due process at all.

[–] [email protected] 69 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So plain clothes guys can just abduct people in courtrooms now?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Yes but the judge will be MIFFED and do nothing.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Until that judge gets detained for having a foreign sounding name.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago

Funny you should put it like that...

“You all could’ve picked me up on Saturday and thrown me on a plane, thinking I’m a member of Tren de Aragua and given me no chance to protest it,” the judge said.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago

All of America ran on the assumption that people played along with the system and trump et al. Called the bluff by openly and shamelessly breaking the rules and watching as nothing was done about it. First the rules of decorum, then the law once they normalized it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 23 hours ago

They didn't quote the judge but he is fucking torqued off.

Literally 2nd amendment.

  • If they don't identify themselves: right to bear arms and self defense.
  • If they do, they fit clearly under the "tyranny" part of the same amendment.
[–] [email protected] 10 points 16 hours ago

Police should probably be arresting kidnappers..

[–] [email protected] 52 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

I'll tell you exactly what can be done.

Sullivan described a tense scene in which ICE agents pounced on Martell-Lebron without identifying themselves, put him into a pickup and sped away.

SHOOT. THEM.

I'm not being a keyboard tough guy here. My wife is a legal immigrant, and damningly brown. This is a thing I've thought about quite a bit.

Unidentified men try to snatch her or get in my house? They are getting killed, best I can. And yes, I'll likely die as well. I'm at peace with that, as much as I can be. Terror has a way of flipping the table on even the best laid plans.

I almost always have a pistol, rifle or shotgun within reach, and only those guns that are rock solid and with which I practice, and I practice one to three times a week. I'm also prepared for night fighting, quick. Rarely carry except in the woods or somewhere strange I'm unsure about, but that's going to change. (And I fucking hate it.)

And it's not just ICE. Been saying for years that once MAGA truly gets the idea that the law does not apply to them, they'll be forming posses. Perhaps we will call them Red Shirts.

FFS, it's like no one really studied WWII in Europe. This is happening now. Trump dying will probably take the air out of the whole thing, I hope. But if he remains in power long enough, his people will have strengthened their situation. You know they're planning for what to do if he keels over with a blown heart.

(Sorry for the rant. Just got home from work and "relaxing".)

[–] [email protected] 15 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Unironically. If I were in a situation like this, I don't care about laws. I'd be defending my family with lethal force if needs be. It's not terrorism. It's loyalty to and protecting my family over my loyalty to the Crown. Easy choice. Defending your family is also "mega based and tradpilled".

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Depending on where you are, laws will even protect you.

In Indiana, our castle laws are pretty wide reaching. You are allowed to defend your property, person, and even other people (including strangers) with appropriate force (up to lethal force) from anyone. Including the police. Now of course, that won't stop them from shooting back, but it's within your legal right.

Now, I am not a lawyer. But I did go through my state's CCW course and I do quite a bit with my local Pink Pistol group so I have a decent grasp on the relevant laws. But do not use this comment as a legal defense haha

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago

Castle and stand your ground laws also apply to you shooting police who do not properly identify themselves. Even more applicable in this scenario.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 21 hours ago

I'm with you. Motherfuckers going die coming for me. If more of us resist this way they may rethink this tatic.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We have tried nothing and already ran out of ideas.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

Well at least we gave it our best

[–] [email protected] 61 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Those Brownshirts BETTER be Careful! Otherwise the Judge will send a VERY STERN LETTER because that's ALL Judges in the US do nowadays!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago

"I can't believe that you could break the law like this, ICE, especially as law enforcement officers. Honestly, you should know better than to disappear political opponents of the President's global policy, and people with tenuous residency status without so much as a hearing. I'm very disappointed in you, Mister."
