Thus far I have been playing on my XBox 360 wireless controller, but the rubber has worn off one of the sticks so far, i can feel the edge of the hard plastic beneath it when I play. The springs in the triggers are creaking as well.

So I am looking for a replacement.

Some people recommended the 8BitDo controllers. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4 Ghz Controller offers hall effect sensors and a loading dock for the same price as a regular Xbox or Playstation controller.

I found some posts about the compatibility with Linux. The BT+2.4 version seems to have more problems, but even the 2.4Ghz version needs some tinkering.

Does anyone have any experience with 8BitDo in general or the 2.4Ghz model in particular? Are there other controllers I should look at? I mostly play rogue likes with controller and would like a XBox/Playstation style controller.

Thanks.

Visa is rolling out new technology that will allow the payments giant to share more information about customers' preferences [non-paywalled source] based on their shopping history with retailers as it seeks to remain a top player in the competitive e-commerce space. From a report:

The data will be shared via the payments giant's proprietary "tokens," which provide an added layer of security between a consumer's bank information and a merchant. Shopping inclinations and other information based on past transactions -- such as preferred categories, like movies or golf -- will be shared via token with retailers with the consent of consumers.

"It's almost entirely blind to almost all consumers," Visa Chief Executive Officer Ryan McInerney said in an interview of the company's token technology. "They just know their payments work better." The sharing of shopping data via token is one of a handful of innovations Visa unveiled at a conference in San Francisco, where it's based. Visa, one of the largest e-commerce technology companies in the world, is finding itself increasingly fending off competitors seeking larger slices of the fees merchants must pay to carry out consumer transactions.

Former President Donald Trump, who four years ago called on Joe Biden to take a drug test prior to the pair’s first debate that September, decided to make the same demand on Friday—one that Biden is sure to wave away once more.

At a campaign rally in Minnesota—where he said he would never return if he lost the state in 2020—the indicted former president recycled his old line of attack against the now-president in advance of the debate next month on CNN.

“I just want to debate this guy, but you know, I’m going to demand a drug test, by the way. I am, I really am,” Trump told supporters at the state GOP Reagan Dinner in St. Paul.

Trump then reiterated what has become a right-wing talking point on Fox News and other platforms regarding Biden’s State of the Union address, which seemed to quell criticisms of the president’s demeanor.

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away.

Netflix must realize that it's a huge frustration for people who relied on offline downloads to watch content without internet access: on planes, trains, and campsites, and anywhere else where Wi-Fi is unavailable or unreliable.

There's a small chance that Netflix will change its mind if it gets enough complaints, but the streaming service seems determined to add as many money-making features as possible, while taking away genuinely useful ones.

I've seen the occasional nonimage post here and didn't know where else to ask this.

On another forum, a downvoter of things, with apparently support from other accounts, revealed that they are downvoting things 'because they have to do with ai'. I have heard from an admin that they have that same problem here.

But when I look it up and try to find a reference for who they are, the closest thing I come up with is Luddite, which refers to people who generally hate technology. I know antifa people are proudly antifa; same with anarchists. But what is this 'anti ai' type of person that seems to have started cropping up? I asked the person directly, but unknown whether they will respond with an accurate reference.

Reminds me of vehement transphobes specifically joining trans communities so they can downvote things; except instead of polar opposite of lgbtq, it is that equivalent except toward ai, creations of ai, and ai community. Encountered it just today and seeking a term to place on what is apparently 'the enemy' to this exact niche we are in.
