In this epic tale of technology and global politics, the US has unwittingly become the catalyst for China’s rapid rise as a tech powerhouse. The irony is almost Shakespearean, with its efforts to curb Chinese advancements inadvertently fuelling their growth and independence. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts, where US actions push China towards greater innovation and competitiveness. This high stakes drama underscores the fact that technology is not just about hardware and software but also about politics, economics, and human determination.

That's factually wrong, US, Canada, and lots of nordic countries have far higher per capita consumption. Meanwhile, the transition from fossils at China is happening at a far more rapid pace than in the west. The gap is actually growing over time.

Where do you think all your shit is produced exactly genius. The biggest climate change threat are mouth breathers living in the west who consume more energy per capita than anywhere else in the world.

The new Mate 60 already uses Kirin 9000S (7 nm) which is made by a Chinese company https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_mate_60_pro-12530.php

I agree that direct impact of the ban on Apple sales will likely be negligible, but I do think that there could be ripple effects both in China and other countries. And of course, 18% of a market the size of China is still pretty huge in absolute terms. So, it's not apocalyptic news for Apple by any stretch, but it likely will have visible negative impact going forward.

Indeed, this blows apart any notion that the west could hold China back technologically.

Basically yeah, China managed to produce domestic 7nm chips in commercial volumes and people thought it would take much longer for that to happen.
