I was remembering a different video, but this one was also funny:

Stag Beetle Throws Girlfriend Out Of Tree | Life | BBC Earth

Jump to 2:55 for the bit that the title is referring to

But the hurling habit dies hard

Nice to see more literature.cafe communities :)

There was the attack on the Internet archive recently, are there any good options out there to help mirror some of the data or otherwise provide redundancy?

One option that I've heard of in the past

https://archivebox.io/

ArchiveBox is a powerful, self-hosted internet archiving solution to collect, save, and view websites offline.

Honestly that might be more helpful.

I sometimes see the overwritten reddit comments when searching for a topic, and I wish that the comment would link to the person's new account (wherever they may be) in addition to the usual blurb on whg they aren't active on reddit anymore

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Well that's cool 😮

I was actually unsure about this one for a moment, but this is AI generated

https://www.aap.com.au/factcheck/sydney-opera-houses-subterranean-chamber-the-product-of-digital-mischief/

The shared image appears on a Facebook page dedicated to “synthography art” – a term that refers to images created via artificial intelligence – and the logo “SA” appears at the bottom left of the Opera House image.

In reality, the easily recognised landmark is not on a round base with trees surrounding it, as depicted, but the narrow Bennelong Point peninsula.

The skyline behind also doesn’t match Sydney’s.

Still a very cool image

Reading comments on Lemmy / Reddit mostly. I'm not looking for the top voted answer but rather the points that people mention and considering what's important to me. If possible I also check with friends that might have purchased something similar

Overtime I'll use Reddit less and less, given that they're now actively telling businesses to take advantage of that effect. Old comments are still ok, but new comments are all suspect

https://www.business.reddit.com/

What a mess.

I started using this recently and it seems to work pretty well. I'd love to know more about how they pick out the topics

Makes me think of this classic:

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Instead of our, they use are as if they forgot the word our exists.

I'm not sure if I've seen this, is this about the pronunciation?

I miss this format

Story

On February 4, 2024, our team was alerted to a loggerhead sea turtle in distress, found floating in a kelp bed in the cold waters near Pedder Bay, about 40 minutes from Victoria, BC. The turtle, now nicknamed Moira, was in a critical state when discovered, prompting an immediate response from local authorities and marine biologists. This incident marks only the second time a loggerhead sea turtle has been reported in BC waters, highlighting the rarity of such events and the importance of swift conservation efforts. Loggerhead sea turtles are a federally protected species in the USA, listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act since 1978, underscoring the significance of Moira's rescue and rehabilitation. Learn more about her rescue story here: https://vammr.org/rescue-news/moiras-rescue/

Name

Moira was named after Moira Rose, a fictional character in the award-winning Canadian television show Schitt's Creek.

Van der Mark was unable to say how many children were on the bus. However, he said that all staff and students had been accounted for and were being checked out by first responders on the scene. He could not confirm whether there were injuries.

He said the school district is working with police to ensure parents and guardians of the students on the bus are informed. Parents are being told to meet their kids at the South Cariboo Rec Centre in 100 Mile House, van der Mark said

Gustav arrived Tuesday morning after being found by a contractor at Mosquito Creek Marina. The contractor noticed a struggling seal pup in the water off the dock. The pup, estimated to be only a few hours old, was struggling to stay afloat with a full placenta still attached. The mother was nowhere to be found.

Named after a character from PC ‘Game of the Year’ 2023 - Baldur’s Gate 3.

This was an interview on ABC (Australian public broadcaster) with Signal Foundation president Meredith Whittaker. It covered current events about Signal and encrypted messaging, with a small bit on AI at the end. The original title of the video is bad.

Key points in the video:

  • 1:30 - Should platforms be held responsible for [the content]
  • 3:15 - (paraphrased) Governments want law enforcement to have access to encrypted communications, why not?
  • 4:15 - (paraphrased) What if people are using it for criminal behaviour
  • 7:00 - (paraphrased) Random AI section

For updates on the patients and activities of MMR, as well as Marine Mammal related content in general. It's the season for a lot of rescues right now, so hopefully there is a good bit of content.

I'm planning to eventually see if the organization wants to take over the community officially
