My hope is that they're working on a SteamDeck-based mini gaming desktop/console.

Good news for you: It's not very good. At least not the first 5 hours, which are painfully boring and full of jank.
I played for a few hours last night and, so far, I feel exactly the same. I'm going to try to barrel through the main narrative for a bit, which is supposed to "open up" the game a lot more - but the game systems and UI themselves are a major part of what is killing it for me. That, and the fact that the game so far seems to be little more than a mediocre FPS.
I'm a parent and have plenty control over what my kids can access. Most devices have parental controls, and for everything else there is Pi-hole. I don't need anyone else to do my parenting for me, especially when it means that I, the parent, get treated like a child.
"Oh please, daddy gubment, can I see this website?"
No. Not gonna fly.
Mozilla gets Google's money only because Google wants to avoid antitrust charges, so they have to help keep Mozilla alive as competition. It doesn't mean Mozilla is in Google's pocket or has any strings attached at all.
Do not use any Chromium based browser. Full stop.
- If you are on Mac, I recommend Orion (Webkit based, but Mac only ATM).
- For every other platform, including Linux, Firefox.
Honestly, Google has gotten so aggressively evil I'd strongly recommend cutting yourself off from all their products entirely. Consider Kagi instead of Google search and Proton instead of GMail. Other offerings also have alternatives that won't spy on you, steal your information, or treat you like both a criminal and a product instead of a customer.
Yes, Bernie, we know. We will because we have no other choice. Because of how absolutely broken and corrupt our entire political system is, we can vote for a ideologically repugnant lame-duck conservative or a literal fascist.
No matter how much we hate Biden and the DNC's corrupt, self-serving conservatism, we still have two brain cells to rub together and do, in fact, understand that "both sides" are most definitely NOT the same.
They are not being bought by regular people like you - they are being bought by investment companies, hedge funds, and filthy rich investors... all for the the sole purpose of turning them into rentals.
By turning them into rentals, they keep supply low which increases prices... which prevents people from buying, keeping rental demand high, which also lets them charge exorbitant rental rates. They are gaming both sides of the system to ensure that us peasants can be milked dry over a fundamental human need.
That article completely misses the forrest for the trees.
It’s a complete game. It was created with vision, passion, love, and complete creative freedom. It has a great story and interesting characters. It provides lots of player agency. It is unflinchingly candid, mature, and uncensored. Your choices, actions, and inaction ACTUALLY MATTERS. There is no DRM. There are no live service strings. You can play alone and/or with friends. There are no strangers or PvP to ruin your game. And yes, there are also no micro-transactions.
The lesson that BG3 offers isn’t just one thing… it’s a LOT of things. But the best way to sum it up is: it’s a great game and it treats players/customers with respect.
Shadow Tactics is GREAT. I highly, highly recommend it.
