Companies in any city when a square millimeter of building isn't covered in advertisements

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not in São Paulo - it is forbidden to have most types of public-facing advertisement here.

Gods damn that sounds lovely

As someone who got to witness the before and after, it is!

Portland Oregon too

They can't find places to paint? Is there some kind of shortage of walls in Berlin? Someone should get on that.

Unpopular opinion: I find simple tagging and non-obscene graffiti in general less offensive than the spam flyers and company logo/QR code stickers everyone sticks everywhere. At least where I live the latter is also way more common.

Tim Heidecker is American but it's a very German name so I'm going to allow this.

Space before question mark: french confirmé

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You're not French? Why not? Explain please, I'm curious. Do you hate baguettes or are you naturally humble 🤔

ETA: hon hon hon

I love bread, that's why I am what I am. From France's best friend with the better bread.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Classic take: name all the Brötchen then?

And if you're France's best friend, why do you keep describing our glorious Peugeot 208 as "Schweinsmiststückswagen für verrückte Weinonanisten"?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

name alle the Brötchen

Merde , you got me there.

Peugeot 208

J'ai moi-même eu une Peugeot 207 il y a quelques années . Le siège central à l'arrière était même plus confortable que dans l'Audi A5 de mon ami .

I wish I could criticise your French, but it's flawless. You leave me with no other choice. I have to reluctantly nod my head (not smiling though)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

My secret is deepl. I speak French, but flawfully.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

That translation is illegal in the USA.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

My French isn't the yellow from the egg, so that was quite a puzzle...

Same thing goes with pooping dogs on Paris sidewalks

And the graffiti doesn't even look good

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 year ago (4 children)

If we’re talking tags, then I’m with you. But graffiti like this is more art than you find in a gallery nowadays. I’ll take that any time. http://youthincmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Graffiti.jpg

A lot of those nice “graffiti” works are actually commissioned by the building directly. It’s not usually something that someone does overnight. They’ll set up actual scaffolding and cordon the area off while the artist works. Because it’s an actual art piece, not just a random tag.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Eh, commissioned pieces definitely exist but you also have some awesome artists doing it the old fashioned way for sure.

And a lot of them aren't.

I'm not from Berlin but I do live in the city. You absolutely see graffiti this elaborate in the wild. In fact it normally comes in on top of all the random tags and mess if it never gets cleaned up

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Every great graffiti artist started with crappy tags and ugly graffities.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I read "crappy tags and ugly giraffes" and was confused but also upset that you'd cast shade on the giraffes like that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Well, every giraffe also starts as a crappy one (not tall at all).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago
