I'm both hungry and also have hiccups. Anyone have any ideas?

You gotta drink water from the far side of the glass.

My go-to for hiccups is to empty then fill my lungs past where they're comfortable and hold as long as possible. It's not comfortable, but has been the best remedy. Peanut butter sounds like it would be good since it's slow to swallow

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago

It's my suspicion that all other remedies are really just ways to get you to hold your breath.

I have had luck with spoonfuls of peanut butter. At least it works for me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

Huh, this is the only one I've never heard of so far. Guess I'll give it a go next time πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Came to post this. Peanut butter works like a charm

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

Ya, thirdsies

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

Same. No idea why it works, but it always does for me.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Sit up straight. Breath in as much as you can. Then a little bit more. Hold as long as you can. Let it out slowly.

Works every time for me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

This is the way.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago

Gaslight yourself into believing hiccups aren't real. Sounds crazy but it works. Just tell yourself they aren't real and really believe it

Vinegar has always helped me. Malt vinegar, or Apple cider vinegar.

Trader Joes has a really yummy lemon ginger acv drink that's one of my go to's

I just made dinner with all the ingredients in this post comments. Thanks all… now I need to know about how to alleviate flatulence tomorrow at work.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't. Power-fart like a boss tomorrow and thank me for your promotion next week.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Dude are you a life coach or something

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, and I take payment in either propaganda of the deed, or funky rock riffs

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It isn't food, but you can always try this. There is even formal research. You're welcome.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

LOL, I've heard of that before.

I'll pass though, I took some Alka Seltzer earlier and so far so good. πŸ‘πŸ€ž

My hiccup remedy is to take a moderately deep breath, then say, out loud, β€œNow” right before you hiccup again.

Usually, the control and attention keep it from happening again. I’ve had many people do this and just go, β€œoh, I guess they went away…” πŸ‘€

One spoon of pickle juice. Do not eat a pickle.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago

Don't have pickles at home right now, but reading the other comments suggesting a spoonful or so of vinegar might help, we do have vinegar at least.

How to kill hiccups in three easy steps - guaranteed to work every single time:

  1. Fill a pint (or any big glass) with water
  2. Exhale all air out
  3. Finish that pint in a single continuous gulp without pausing
[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

Water always works for me

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Do a shot of vinegar. Works every time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Tried that, didn't work ☹️

It's been over 24 hours now, only with very brief breaks in the hiccups, but yeah I actually feel like I'm doomed for now ☹️

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

Not to scare you, but if they last more than a couple days you should reach out to a doctor. I have a family member who had this happen, had horrid hiccups for 4 days straight and it tore open a part that required surgery. It's been so long now I can't remember exactly how it happened since I was fairly young at the time, but do take care of yourself <3 hope they clear up soon

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

It's very rare that this happens to me. I do think it's associated with a mild chest cold I just went through over the past few days or so. The cold itself has basically already passed, but I think that's what left me with lingering hiccups.

At least the hiccups aren't severe, like I don't think I'm gonna end up with a hernia or anything like that, but yeah it's annoying as hell and making it rather difficult to sleep ☹️

I'm pretty sure it'll pass within a day or so, hopefully 🀞

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yay, I think the hiccups have finally passed!

I think... 🀞

I don't know about foods, but do you know how to play a wind instrument? Playing trumpet for 30 seconds has been a 100% cure for me. Then you can get on with the eating.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

The only wind instrument I play is the farthole πŸ’©

But I did just pluck a wild onion and ate that, and it seems to have alleviated the hiccups, for now anyways...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

A swallow of lemon juice will fix you right up.

Sadly I don't have any right now, but I've already tried Pepto Bismol and also gas relief pills, like the closest things we have around right now. No dice, still hiccups.. ☹️

Honestly I feel like if I could just have one good long fart that the hiccups might pass LOL!

  1. Get water
  2. Sip the water slowly and constantly
  3. Always be swallowing
  4. Don’t stop
  5. Keep Sipping
  6. It should start to feel weird how long you’ve been sipping this water
  7. Keep sipping
  8. Enjoy not having hiccups

It took me years to work out when people say drink water, they don’t mean, just take a mouthful and swallow. You actually need to slowly sip the water.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Every time I have hiccups I stop it immediately by changing the rhythm of my breathing and making sure I breath using my diaphragm.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ten swallows of water without taking a breath, as fast as you can.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

Get a glass of water and a bunch of straws, drink through as many straws as you can.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Hold your breath until you pass out

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

hiccaway straw works great

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

I looked into this for my son, who gets really bad hiccups. We have lots of regular straws, so before I bought a special one, I had him try a regular straw that was pointing straight down at the bottom of the cup so that it was letting in as little water as possible. Totally works (most of the time).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

Fill your lungs and then do multiple(7ish) dry swallows in a row. It works extremely well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

What works for me is looking into a light and continuously swallowing my saliva as often as possible
