Got my account banned because I posted a photo that I uploaded to imgbb.com with the reason being "blacklisted URL".

In the past imgbb was used to post CSAM to some communities so some instances remove links to images hosted on it (or I guess ban the user in the instance you were on)

Edit: seems like that was lemmy.world, reach out to their community team and ask to be unbanned if you want your account unbanned, seems like they did that for someone else in the past

Just found the post from someone having the same issue a week ago. It's odd there is nowhere specified this list of blacklisted hosting services.

And banned with no warning? Fucking powertripping mods all over again.

Modding is a time consuming and often thankless job, this doesn't sound like power tripping.

Why not warning before banning for such stupid reason?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago

Why not raise the request while being nice? You'd be surprised how much spam and scam I remove every day. So I wrote a bot that will do parts of it for me. The bot is not perfect and there will be false positives. If you contact the admins instead of calling them dicks, you might actually improve the Automods in use and prevent another false positive!

Aww man, I used it to upload Star Trek memes...

This post probably should go in [email protected] and perhaps an admin might see it.

It also seems strange to me to immediately permaban someone for this, especially as I also can't find this blacklist anywhere.

True, there should be a topic on this and at the very least, give sample alternatives for those less tech savvy. We should try to do better than Reddit, especially with communicating; something they were notoriously bad at.
