Parenthood, IYKYK (lemmy.world)
submitted 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

ETA: The word is Parenthood, idk what's up with the lemmy.world "illegal picture scanner", but it would reject my upload if it had any words relating to kids, apparently, up to and including "parenthood"

PSA: If you don't know, coin cells are very easy for toddlers to swallow and very deadly in a matter of hours when stomach acid starts breaching it and mixing with the battery chemistry if not promptly treated.

the lemmy.world "illegal picture scanner" ... would reject my upload if it had any words relating to kids, apparently, up to and including "parenthood"

Well there's certainly no text filter

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You're not on Lemmy.world, though

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Aren’t we though? I don’t really understand activitypub enough to know.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The post is on Lemmy world, but that instance has a filter that seemingly only applies to their users.

Or maybe it applies to external users too, but only for users that signed up on their instance. So since you signed up on lemm.ee, you are unaffected by their filters.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

I would assume it applies to users and communities on the instance but I've never looked into it.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Also @[email protected] I think the "illegal" picture scanner is a little TOO aggressive, it rejected the same version of this meme with just the words "parenthood" or "children" or "kids" with "External validation failed"

Idk why you censored par——ood you can curse on the internet

Don't show this to Lemmy.world users

[–] [email protected] 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wow fuck censorship. Lemmy.world should be ashamed of doing this.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Lemmy.World got inundated with CSAM in its early days

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

explain how "Luigi" is CSAM.

also, "parenthood".

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Didn’t know about Luigi being blocked. Is there a post about that?

As for parenthood, I’m guessing it is on some blocklist of words related CSAM. Parenthood is associated with children after all. It’s obviously a blunt instrument to block things this way and results in “false positives.”

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Hence the "fuck censorship".

Hey check out this guy who doesn’t know what par—-ood is!

[–] [email protected] 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I reversed my downvote after reading this. I thought you'd just censored parenthood for no reason. That's fucked up

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

Thanks yea took me like half an hour to workout, they definitely should adjust their rejection error message to be useful to

Even after I figured out it was being rejected rather than just a general error, I thought it was the toxic waste barrels at first lolol

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago

Agreed. The obvious reason being that it's to catch instances of "Planned Parenthood" but... why ban that phrase???

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago

I can’t believe you’d post this kind of toxic content!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How did you figure out it was being rejected? I had some issues a while back trying to post a picture of my cat, but I just gave up.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I tried uploading on the lemmy.world website and would get an error message"External Validation Failed" some googling later and came across a lemmy.world post talking about that's the message when an upload gets rejected by their illegal content scanner

Stop swearing!

My 11 year old ate a button battery. She threw it up in the X-ray room. We're still paying the emergency room bill.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Haha yes. She was playing with it mindlessly while on the computer. She's always putting stuff in her mouth, like jewelry and coins. And we've always taken that stuff away and told her she's going to swallow it. She may have learned her lesson this time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Maybe give her fidget toy save to swallow? If not concious fidget, how gonna stop because of lesson?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

I think she's been scared out of that habit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

This is why they are mostly sold with a bitterant outer coating. It should be pretty gross to just hold a recently purchased coil cell battery in your mouth these days.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago

These fuckers are impossible to open now. Must be some sort of EU regulation. They have this tiny plastic container that feels like it could withstand the apocalypse. Also apparently they have like a bad taste flavouring applied, which of course prevents them from working at all in certain devices. Had to scrub it off with rubbing alcohol just to get it to function. Not a difficult fix but "debugging" the issue took time. No amount of toddlers are worth dealing with this shit.

/s but also just let me buy the normal batteries too without all this added shit

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 days ago

My kids: Batteries? Nah, but those plants and pen caps are awfully tasty!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago

I feel like an abortion would have been quicker

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago

yummy batteries
