There's a more detailed view if you go to History > Manage history, or press Ctrl+Shift+H

complementing this, in case the last visited column is not visible

The problem is you have to know the approximate timeframe of your last visit - eg. If it was in the past week it may not be searchable in other categories such as *more than 3 months ago".

... likewise, if you can still find it by going to a currently open tab and hitting"back" enough times, it may not have been addded to history yet.

Firefox's history is a little idiosyncratic. One of the less polished parts of the browser.

One of the less polished parts of the browser.

Probably because most people using Firefox disable browsing history.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

you can assume most people use the defaults

why would most people bother to disable the history when most don't even use ad blockers?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I would imagine most people who aren't using chrome are doing so for privacy reasons.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Unless one shares a computer user with somebody, the privacy concerns of local history are nothing compared to connected features. There are many reasons people might use a browser other than chrome. Everybody disabling history is a strange assumption.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

What makes you say that?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I don't think many people disable browsing history. Most people don't even open the settings they just use whatever is default.

Open the actual history window.

Control+Shift+H or you can find the link to it in the history menu in the main Firefox menu. Or at the bottom of the history menu from the history button if you add it to your toolbar. Or in the Library section if you use that menu/button.

The sidebar is a cut down overview.

Same for bookmarks, the full bookmark screen has more depth and features than the sidebar.

Also worth mentioning: you might still need to add the "most recent visit" column under the View menu. And if you dare to actually load any of those pages, they'll move all the way to the top, and will not remain in their original location. It's really annoying.

Maybe sort by "date" instead of date & site?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That just groups them all by month, sorted alphabetically. It should me called "by month", not "by date".

This is the weirdest fucking thing about Firefox. How is its history menu so goddamn horrible and why hasn't it been fixed.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There's a detailed history window? The sidebar isn't it; just a quick overview. Control+Shift+H for the full history screen. It's also in the menus under history, at the bottom. Like the full bookmark window is control+shift+B and linked at the bottom of the bookmarks menu.
