Crashing is caused by a confluence of four separate power and voltage bugs.

Just one more update, we promise this will fix the problem, please don't force us to recall all the CPUs

I’ve not kept up to date with this but wasn’t the problem that as soon as you run these CPUs they are getting permanently damaged? Surely they have to recall them?

They might be able to make some kind of test that could reliably identify damage.

I mean, I'm skeptical, but it's not impossible.

That's the beauty of intermittent problems!!

You can't prove they aren't there, only that they are, or, that you fail to reproduce.

Every CPU will wear out given enough time. Most of the time that is like 20+ years, so no one cares. The problem is that they where pushing things so hard the CPU was wearing out in 6 months. So all of these CPUs will likely have a reduced lifespans, but they may last long enough to get you to your next upgrade. If you are already seeing crashing issues, it is likely wore out already.

If you overclock it and it starts to crash Intel say “sorry warranty void”, if Intel accidentally overclock it and drastically reduce its life “…”

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hey get your facts straight. They overclocked it intentionally but poorly. If they weren't already pushing it to the limit this probably wouldn't even be an issue.

You’re right I should have said “”accidentally””

This has been ridiculous. I have no idea how long my CPU will last and whether it will just randomly start failing. Intel has run out of spares and it seems to have had so many stabs at fixing the problem now that if we believe this is really the last one we are the fools.

These CPUs need a recall.

I bought a 13600k a few months ago. Applied all the microcode patches but I think the processor is toast. If I’m able to boot up most programs just crash. Steam loads once out of every 10 times I try and open it. Forget games.

I spent $400+ CAD on this processor less than 6 months ago. It’s unusable now. I will never ever purchase an intel processor again, even if they fix this and this never happens again. I was sold a defective product and I have no recourse to get my money back.

I have an unusable computer.

Can you not claim warranty / do an RMA?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (3 children)

They won’t accept it because it’s out of the package and has been used for some months.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

Check with Intel, not whoever you bought the chip from. They extended the warranty and will replace bad chips. For most models I believe it was extended from 1 to 3 years.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

That's returning it to the seller. In your country there's implied warranty from the manufacturer and they will have to honor your claims if it is showing defects

Hey guys! Intel just came out with the new gaming CPUs! These last twice as long! Up to 1 year lifetime!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

I updated my bios yesterday and my PC bricked unfortunately. Quite bummed this happened.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Still can’t find any update for the 14600KF

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Where are you searching for updates? Your motherboard manufacturer should release firmware updates that include the microcode patches.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The official website of my motherboard, which is MSI. They did update other ones but haven’t seen anything about the Intel 14600KF version.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I wouldn't think updates would be rolled out for each CPU model, or am I wrong here?

I read this BIOS Update For Intel Core 14th and 13th Gen Desktop Processor Instability

Within the article;

The 1st batch of BIOS releasing models are MEG Z790 GODLIKE MAX, MEG Z790 ACE MAX, MPG Z790 CARBON MAX WIFI II, MPG Z790 CARBON WIFI, MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI and Z790MPOWER. All BIOS of Intel 700 and 600 series motherboards and 14th /13th Generation Desktop PC will be released soon in coming weeks by the end of August. MSI will continue to update our users on the latest news.

The way I understand it is that once they release an update for your board, it should cover all the processors compatible with it, not just the one you have specifically.

So glad I got a 12900k. Apparently they beefed up the reliability of the 12th Gen since it was the first gen with the new framework, but crapped out on the subsequent gens. Looking like it's going to be the best CPU for quite some time.
