That guy may even choose his house. : )

hermit crab

Hermit crabs ... have adapted to occupy empty scavenged mollusc shells to protect their fragile exoskeletons.

But unfortunately, the ocean housing market has been facing a crisis, and a lot of them are finding themselves having to live in plastic waste.

Is using plastic waste necessarily disadvantageous to them? Maybe they choose to us some plastic containers over mollusc shells? (Serious question)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

From what I've read, they often get trapped in human-made containers and die. The containers are also often less resistant and durable. However, it seems to be still unclear why they do that, if purely by lack of proper shells, or if they see some advantage in some containers.

He's got bonus legs! Quadrupedalism is for suckers.

And he has many legs

Unlike humans, who are notoriously limited in their housing choices by an evolutionary disadvantage known generally as, "the market."

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 months ago

It seems legs are not the defining feature when it comes to housing.

Where Saddam Hussein? He has house and legs, both can be seen in the only picture of Saddam Hussein.

Missed opportunity for a sweet Venn diagram.

I object! A truth table would be a much superior representation.

Does it bother anybody else that the snail's label is backwards? It should be no legs, house.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

I guess, they swapped it, because people might misread it as both 'legs' and 'house' being negated...

It's missing the popular, aquatic category of Crab models.

✅ Legs ✅ House ✅ Fully/Semi Aquatic

Then again at that point you'd need to break it down by species...
