I ask for one if I suspect they'll get my order wrong and I have a paper trail.

If you’re gonna repost something from ifunny, at least crop the watermark off.

Mine is based on whether I can scan the receipt for points to get free stuff.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Similar but I scan mine for reimbursement as the majority of times I am buying stuff while outside the house it is a business expense. This statement makes me realize I need to leave the house more often for non work purposes.

I scan all my receipts and keep a digital record so that someday I can look back through them all and chart the prices of things I regularly purchased over time

Also useful for the occasional class action

In grocery stores I usually say no because I'm not gonna return my carrots and I don't want them to waste ink and paper. Unfortunately a lot of stores print the receipt either way and immediately throw it into the trash if you say no.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

Fun fact: Most receipts don't use ink. Just thermal paper and heat.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

My response is usually "Sure, I can always use an alibi!"

I was just at Hollywood market today and the cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt. For some reason I said No but he printed it out and stuck it in the bag. I told him thank you and left. Next time I will let them make the decision.

For me it's a little less haphazard, but I'm guessing this person has lived something of a life of privilege and is probably significantly younger than myself.

I had an ex who was arrested because a gas station employee accused him of not paying for gas after he declined the receipt. Grocery stores and department stores, I want a receipt because there's too much bullshittery and asshattery going on at those types of places for me to go without. I want to see when Walmart charges me $5.99 instead of $3.00 like it said on the shelf and I want the money back on my card when I inevitably have to do a return. Restaurants, I want my receipt because unfortunately some of the folks who run the card will "accidentally" miskey the tip amount, and strangely it's always in their favor.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I sometimes don't even listen to the amount they say. I just hear a number and know it's time to use my card.

I wonder how much was mistakenly charged to me over the years.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

But then how much time have you saved not having to receipt the receipts.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I find this very annoying for groceries. My answer would always be no. But they installed this stupid system where your shopping cart wheels will randomly lock up as you're walking out the door and the security person has to come unlock them, and it's a pain if you don't have a receipt.

So now I always press yes just in case I lose cart roulette..

That is fucking awesome

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

Of course this would exist lol

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Where do you live and what store is that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Ah that'll do it.

Your comment felt like it was written by a native English speaker. Its illegal to do that in the US outside of a contract allowing it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

English is actually my second language - so thank you!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

In most of the EU it’s against the law to not print out a receipt without written consent.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

I base it purely on if there's something in my shopping that may need to be returned. Like clothes or electronics.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

If it gets printed anyway, yep. Then check if the prices match expected prices. If not, fuck I'll do, I have social anxiety, guess I just lost some money. I am the kind of person who'd be willing to pay extra for self-checkout.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Usually I try to get my account to auto opt-in to email so I doge this question

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Am I traveling with a fixed per diem, or do I need to submit receipts/costs for reimbursements?

Totally unscientific observation, but it seems that at airports they rarely ask if you want a receipt, and just assume that you do

which makes sense in the context of business travel.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This was here a few days ago. Why repost so quickly?
