Smaller dogs tend to live a lot longer than big dogs. It's not rare to see a 10-20lb dog live for 15-20 years. Illnesses are kind of too broad to make sense here. Besides genetic defeats, there's a bunch of illnesses that plague different breeds of dogs and different sizes.
