My mother.

She was returning something on a slow night at Best Buy.

We did not make it past the tween greeter at the front door before she unleashed!

Mom went off. The way she was talking, you would think he, personally, did something to harm her. This kid was standing there, shrinking away, with what looked like his girlfriend standing next to him. He was a door greeter, had no control or decisive role in any way.

Of course, she called a manager.

I feel real bad for that kid but love embarrassing my mother by recounting that true tale to others.

Title I do not want a Microsoft account. Microsoft doesn't need any more info about me than they already have. Thanks

That sounds so great. Do you know the device's product name? Which library do you get this from? I'd like to try it out in my library.

Wow. Thank you. That was gross, but now it's clean.

Talking post-Sesame Street/Mister Rogers/Electric Co. tunes

Circa 1983 on my first plane ride alone, aged about 10, from CA to GA, headphones plugged into the armrest with the ashtray inside: 'The Tide Is High' by Blondie was the first 'grown-up' song I recall that grabbed me.

How can I tell which print edition of the New Yorker has the online article? Do all online articles appear in the print edition?

I read the online Interview with Justin Torres, loved it, I want the print edition to frame. The online edition says it was published 12/31/2023, I just can't find it in print.

"He had the handsomest wop kisser I ever saw" -Jean Genet "Thief's Journal" p.185

What does wop kisser mean?

I'm in the US.

I haven't discerned a pattern, by the media, in the titling of the horror currently underway.

I've seen Al Jazeera use both phrasings. I haven't determined that other media sites are hardlining their terminology either, but I notice the difference as I browse.

Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but these days people seem extra sensitive about names.

David Eddings? I read him way back when I was a kid (~35 years ago). Think the series was called The Belgariad or Belgarion. The first 3-6 books were fun in a light yet captivating, magicy, fantasy way.

Ian Curtis (Joy Division), though that would probably screw up the timeline for New Order and all of 80's music (not a dealbreaker).

Prince (obvs)

I'm on a Galaxy S7'edge' that I really need to migrate away from. I don't want the foldable, and I'm not into iphones. How good/bad is the Galaxy S24 in this situation?

Recently started using Alexandrite and am really enjoying the experience, but have questions.

I'm thinking of Alexandrite as the chocolate shell over my lemmy.world ice cream cone. Alexandrite is not an instance, correct?

I have not found a place on Alexandrite where my subscriptions (joined communities) are listed. Is this not yet available?

I assume that if I join a community in one (either Alexandrite or Lemmy.world) it will sync with the other. True?

I've joined communities in Alexandrite, but they don't show in the list of subscribed communities in lemmy.world. That just may take more time. Yes?

Thanks!

Title.

Newbie, recently joined, 7/1/23.

Right now, I'm on three: Lemmy.world (my 'main' or 'home'), kbin, and Blahaj Lemmy. I'm looking at Reddthat and sh.itjust.works as well.

Just curious. I know most of the content will overlap, but there are differences in philosophy/moderator style, etc.

Do you like having ONE instance?

I'm loving Alexandrite as the Dove dark chocolate enrobing my lemmy.world ice cream bar!
