Checking in from Vancouver Island. Nearest one is 26hrs away.

I did love them when I was living in California and could be there in an hour. Now I take my chances with online sellers like Amazon.

That could be a longer wait because Gnome (hopefully) wont be standing still during that time.

they want to bring in the most money and expend the least effort. I can respect that.

Policing customers/users is a PITA and generally sux to do even on the smaller scale of an office. Much cheaper and easier to do nothing.

That assumes that your deletions are actually deleted and not just unlinked. Even then they almost certainly still have all that data in the form of backups. There is a near 100% chance it has been sold and used to train LLMs.

And if they really want to they could restore the comments/posts with randomly generated user names.

I knew quite a few linux fans who went with Apple laptops when OSX came out. At the time it was the best thing available that had unix under the hood which made it really powerful in the right hands.

that is not a thin-client in the traditional sense, just a small form factor (1liter) pc. Thin clients were minimal spec machines that were made to connect to a much more powerful server somewhere on the network that did all the work. The thin client handled the display and I/O.

Mini PCs are generally a far better deal than a Pi and much more powerful for any kind general computing use.

the Canadian government REQUIRES you to use Adobe reader to sign PDFs in order to immigrate to canada

This took a few frustrated attempts to discover for me. Moved to Canada last year and while I am a citizen my wife and kids are not. There was a lot of paperwork to fill out and submit and having repeated issues with documents not opening and seeming not to exist was crazy making. I dont normally install Adobe anything on my computers but decided it was worth a try...

Bright side of the story is that after less than a year the family is now all legal and have their PR cards. The Canadian gov can be refreshingly efficient sometimes.
