You're likely eligible for your states Medicare subsidies. Democrats fixed the family glitch in 2022, so you'll likely save thousands switching off your employer plan, even if you're making low six figures.

Of course those subsidies expire in 2025, and there is a snowballs chance in hell of those getting renewed now.

Democrats did a lot of things to improve the lives of working class, at least as much as they could get pass the Republican house.

Their problem is messaging. They are terrible at communicating what they're doing, and how it's going to help. I mean part of that problem is the media (ie fox news) is allowed to lie and Dems try to tell the truth. The playing field is not really level.

Have opinions on what Dems did wrong or where we go from here?

Please post your ideas here if you'd like: [email protected]

If you can, turn off your phone or computer and go vote!!! If you already voted, tell someone else to vote!!!

Less than 10 hours from now will decide if the US veers toward democracy or fascism.

House and Senate matter far more than the presidency, without them the president has very little influence on policy with exception of veto power.

With 2/3 control, the president wouldn't even have veto power and would be entirely powerless.

Vote for your congressional representation! This is the one day that the little guys can determine the policy direction of the country.

but vaccines are not foolproof

Yes they are. Only pointing out so there is not unnecessary fear spread about rabies. It is 100% preventable before or after exposure.

Does the rabies vaccine work? The rabies vaccine works remarkably well. Studies indicate that if the vaccine is given immediately and appropriately to someone who was bitten by a rabid animal, it is 100 percent effective.

Most teachers are aware how bad smartphones are, at least from the surveys I've seen. They're more skeptical of them than parents or children. I think this case is kind of an outlier.

I probably wouldn't trust airplane mode, but I do believe power off is safe. There is no transmit capability in off correct?

But yeah, leaving phone at home is best knowing tracking sites like these exist.

Or just hit airplane mode / power off. Or just leave the phone at home, the procedure takes only 5-10 minutes.

People are way to attached to their phones. The world will not collapse in that hour, it is a survivable event, or so I hear from reputable sources.

You never know if you might come down with the flu or have a family emergency on Nov5. Don't take the chance if you can avoid it and vote in person early!

Rules are still evolving, but right now I'm just aiming for a community for civil discourse ...if such a thing is possible in politics. [email protected]

This is probably a dumb question, and maybe there is a way to do this with native applications, but I can't seem to turn on a screensaver. One with the funky art just to run for a few minutes or so to remind me, hey you left the computer on, don't forget to finish what you're doing.

In synaptic there is: gnome screensaver, cinnamon, kodi, mate, ukui, screensaver, and a few others. The last one, Xscreensaver, was the one recommended when I searched online but I also found a forum post where it was mentioned this was no longer maintained and not recommended anymore.

I guess a more broad question is how does an end user using Synaptic package manager know if the package is actively maintained or likely abandoned? Stale is ok, but it seems like using a project that hasn't been updated in 15 years could possibly be a bad idea for security.

So I made a post earlier asking what small community people wished was on Lemmy and the top upvoted suggestion was:

One that shows big machinery. Like cranes, trains, excavators and stuff like that

So a made a sub with that topic and put some relevent pictures. I figure an XKCD style title would keep things light. Feel free to make this your own if this was your interest as I was just trying to plant the seed for some ideas.
