Any recommendation for a cheap, small #firewall for my #homelab ? I realized I can’t control easily what goes out of my network only via DNS block lists

I never said my config is not working, I said sometimes (some cellular connections, but not all) it is not working, that is a huge difference.

I highly recommend you educate yourself a bit https://tailscale.com/compare/wireguard
https://tailscale.com/blog/how-tailscale-works#DERP

TLDR

Tailscale is built on TOP of Wireguard, but has a few goodies that Wireguard doesn't provide.

@[email protected] Tailscale is way more than WireGuard but ok

@[email protected] Thanks, but I did

However sometimes (not always) the connection to my home is blocked,

I guess tailscale will have to do

@[email protected] no, the issue is not keepalive, since it cannot connect in the first place... moving to another wifi (instead of celullar) works fine, so it is not a problem with my configuration.

@[email protected] the name resolution is not the issue, the ip hasn't changed

A question re. #wireguard

When I'm away from home I usually connect to my home (US) and my server (Europe). However sometimes (not always) the connection to my home is blocked, I don't know if it is caused by my phone company or my ISP. I blame the latter, because the connection to my european server never fails.

I wonder if there is something I can do in those cases?
I guess I could try to redirect the traffic to use the european server as a proxy, but that would make things slower the 90% of the time this isn't a problem. Also, this would require me to switch wireguard connections manually, which is not ideal, especially if I'm driving.

Another alternative would be tailscale (maybe with headscale), but I'd rather keep my infrstructure as wireguard only.

Any ideas? cc @[email protected] @[email protected]

@[email protected] It is not ideal, but you can use privacy redirect, an extension to change the search engine

@[email protected] lemmy.world seems to work for that :-)

@[email protected] I won’t be the only one suggesting Tailscale here (or WireGuard + vps)

Syncing password between firefox clones

I use floorp at home and firefox at work and I would like to sync password between those in a self-hosted way. I saw some mozilla server code somewhere to do so, but seems abandoned.

I would prefer a native mozilla-like solution instead of installing an extension, but if nothing else, that is also an alternative... suggestions?

Question about #restic

Currently I'm backing up my personal computer on a local server and a remote repository. The easiest solution is to have a cronjob for 2 processes. However, I'm wondering if it is possible to scan the files only once and send the backup updates to both repositories instead of doing two scans... suggestions?

There should be a “shower thoughts mode” in the shower so after you clean yourself, the current water used in the shower is recycled and reheated. In this way you can keep shower thinking without wasting water cc @[email protected]

Tips to overcome work-related overthinking?

I’ve been more and more stressed out about work during weekends; I tend to think a lot about the things I couldn’t finish this week and how to tackle them in the upcoming week. I’ve been getting obsessed to the point I really don’t enjoy weekends and I can’t relax.

It would be unfair to blame external pressures, it is just me overthinking.

What are your strategies to avoid this?

Firefox alternatives

I'm thinking of switching to some Firefox alternative, but there are too many. So far, I'm thinking of Floorp, Waterfox or LibreWolf, but it is hard to decide on one specifically. Is there are suggestion in terms of privacy, security, maintanability, etc?
