There's a group called Improv Everywhere that used to do really creative flash mobs like the No Pants Subway ride where they would all claim to have forgotten to put on pants that day, or going into a cafe and lugging 90s desktops in and dialing in, or during the Great Recession they had a suicide jumper on a 2ft high ledge which they dramatically had to talk down.

They once tried to do a "writers against libraries" stunt but it ended up not being funny enough because people kinda went "oh yeah libraries are kinda weird in that they just give out books for free"

Unless something has changed they took an axe to all 7th gen and older Intel CPUs and Ryzen 2000 and older AMD CPUs. This is the big challenge since this includes some very capable systems that are now just ewaste because Microsoft didn't want to maintain compatibility all the way back to the Pentium 4 and Core 2 Duo and cut off platforms that still have life left in them

Any of you don't want to be on jury duty just saying you don't wish to do it can be enough to be removed fron the jury pool (alternatively seeming way too interested could also be a tactic)

In recent months YouTube has been suggesting content that screams "meninist/right wing onboarding" so if I just watched whatever it recommended I might be in a very different place right now...

For the not all media played successfully, I found it was primarily down to transcode settings trying to hardware transcode file types my server can't hardware transcode. It's something worth playing with

My biggest problem with short form content is I want to pick what I'll watch based on the uploader, title and thumbnail, not be algorithmically fed videos I may or may not be interested in. All of the video providers are going straight for the algorithm so I have zero interest.

The algorithm won't know what kind of content I'm in the mood for so I want to be in control to choose. The algorithm also likes to try to feed me content by some creators who aren't worth my time and I don't want to watch one second of their videos

Unironically a great reason to use condoms. Condom protects the interted item from fecal matter, and can be disposed of after the fact meaning cleanup is quick and easy

AI at least provides a clear product that can be a helpful workforce multiplier, whereas Bitcoin provided an unprotected alternative to traditional markets with none of the safeguards nor legal precedents of traditional markets, so it's only led to illegal activities piled upon illegal activities

To be fair, if I had an option to effectively invest in Google circa 2004 in 2024 I would toss some spare money at it, and that's basically what OpenAI is offering at this moment. They've established themselves, shown strong leadership and established strong relationships with major companies. They're a leader in a particular product segment and while they could falter and fail, there's enough momentum that they're more likely to be acquired than to actually fail, plus they're swimming in extremely uncharted waters so there's plenty of opportunities for them to both greatly improve ongoing operational efficiency and to create new products with new markets, much like where Google was in 2004
