Yeah that's not going to happen. If we haven't been able to make any significant inroads on mitigating climate change in the last 20 years, we sure as hell aren't going to with the rise of strident climate change denier politicians to power all over the world. We are fucked.

I wonder how long it will be before the Supreme Court awards these sock puppet accounts with personhood, just like they did corporations.

"Oh shit, someone revealed the plan that everyone already knew about! Quick, distance ourselves from it!"

"Does that mean we're no longer doing the plan?"

"Don't be stupid! Of course we are still doing it! We just don't admit it!"

It's not that easy for most people to move to a different country.

Whatever she does do is just going to be reversed. Good or bad, it will be fine purely out of spite. It's a futile exercise.

Thankfully, she's not even on the radar there.

for many of us still using X, there’s a sense that we are trapped on the site with Musk

Seriously? Is Musk pointing a gun to their heads or something? Just ditch it. It's not difficult. Millions already have. They need to grow a proverbial spine, close their account, and stop giving credibility and attention to that toxic nepo-baby man-child.

Exactly. Good job. Hang in there.

Sorry friend, but in the immortal words of Karen Carpenter: "it's only just begun!"

We still face weeks of crippling political analysis, sensationalist reporting about phantom voter fraud, tantrums, recriminations, threats, and histrionics (if Harris wins, and probably even if trump wins his followers will still do this), hand-wringing about the far right's plans, probably some domestic terrorism, etc.

But hey, you did your part - you voted. And so did I and many others. We did all we can.

Aww, poor diddums. Does he have a full diaper or does he need a nap? Maybe both?

He didn't even throw in a "NO HOMO!!1!" at the end.

Very sad. Very low energy.

I'm really sorry you're in this situation. I can't fully understand where you're coming from because I can't walk in your shoes. But I genuinely wish you the best. It sounds like you have a shit-ton of stress and are dealing with depression right now. I can relate to that part at least, and I really hope you can get some help from a counselor, because while they can't help with some things, they can make a world of difference in other ways. Hopefully I don't piss you off by saying this, but... sending you a virtual hug. Hang in there.

Not sure I totally agree with the article writer. But it provides food for thought.

The attempted murderer took issue with the fact that the girl and the rest of her family were Palestinians and speaking in a different language.

Interesting article about the struggles two linguists had taking Frank Herbert's eclectic Fremen words and turning them into a working conlang (constructed language) for the new movies.

Looks like some on the right-wing have a new fictional bogeymen to blame shootings on.

Interesting article on Frank Herbert's evolving take on environmentalism, and how a book series forged in the 1960s could impact the real world of tomorrow.

There are so many amazing and thought-provoking quotes in the Dune novels. And there are probably some new ones in the movies too.

If you had to pick just one quote from the Dune universe, one that really made you think about life and our place in it, what would it be?

There are many houses and other groups in the novels. The most well-known ones being House Atreides, House Harkonnen, the Bene Gesserit, and the Fremen. But Frank Herbert's created many other groups in his fictional universe, some of which gradually evolved, and some which just died out.

Which is the one you are most fascinated with? And why do you find them so interesting?
