Why is it that in all these stories the kid is actually decent, listens to their parents advice and does well in life?

A lot of the kids I know are little arseholes who do the exact opposite of whatever their parents tell them.

This isn't a jar of honey it's a mass produced electronic device that's only made in a select few factories in the world with some custom branding on it. Lenovo has just given them some old stock which they're trying to flip. Very different scenario to a mom and pop store entirely.

You are right in everything except that it's absolutely not the superior option in OPs situation. A lawyer has to guarantee that a document is identical and recallable in its exact form even years from now and the only way to absolutely ensure this is using Office itself.

Furthermore, most law firms use and have to access other parties document management systems and the thick clients for these with all the features only run on Windows. Screwing around with WINE to get these maybe working isn't worth the hassle for a time-poor lawyer with cases to work on.

Computers are just another tool in the box when it comes to your business and you should use the best version of it to get the job done. It's simply only Windows in OPs case here that's the viable option. It might be corruption or vendor lock in or whatever but there's no point trying to fight it in this scenario.

Are you attacted to the guy because you think he's hot and you wanna sleep with him or are you after more than that?

If you're after more then take the time to get to know him and be yourself, with time you will break down barriers and get to know him better and find out if you truly are compatible. You don't have to have sex right away with someone you want a long term relationship with.

However, if you're just looking to get laid, then just do that. If you're attractive then it's literally one of the easiest things in the world for a woman to achieve so just keep that in the back of your mind, that the dude is probably into you no matter what, and go for it.

There was some noise a while back where Nvidia were going to do just that by moving the proprietary bits to the card and open sourcing the kernel bits.

What ever happened to that anyway?

This is a laptop with a 2 generation old processor and no real GPU being sold for about the same price as a Lenovo laptop with a Ryzen 7 + 4060 GPU in it. I think Lenovo scammed you.

I suspected this was the case the moment I heard about it and the length of time it took to fix it. Typical outage for stuff managed out of SE Asia.

I've worked with lawyers a bit in an IT role so I'll put it bluntly. Don't bother.

Why? You have to ensure complete compatibility with Microsoft Office standards in your job and you may also need to access third-party systems especially document management systems on a regular basis. These things require Windows. It's a sad fact of life that your colleagues being able to read your documents and ensure consistent layout is more important than anything else.

Yes, you can try Libre Office and soforth. However, the moment the court staff, other lawyers or anybody else gets a jumbled mess you're going to cause yourself more problems than it's worth. Even you yourself need to be able to ensure compatibility when it comes to information storage and retrieval too.

Windows licences are essentially free with your devices anyway and the cost of Office is a couple of hundred bucks top. Money might be tight but losing information from your court cases could put you out of business.

Sorry Linux fanboys, but Windows is the superior option here as much as I wish it was not. It's simply the best tool for the job.

I think the problem was doing the show in an incredibly small town where the hillbillies only like country music.

That's incredibly overpriced for the spec and what you're getting. Ouch. Why can't somebody make a decent laptop that's actually remotely cost competitive with a bog standard Windows laptop that I can just randomly buy at my local store?

Can't find any information about the price or how to actually buy it though.

This is more than just NIMBYs in Australia unfortunately. There's a huge campaign pushing nuclear energy here over renewables. The current government is pushing renewables while the opposition party is pushing nuclear. There are a few mining companies and things who stand to make absolute bank if we went nuclear and the mining companies have a lot of political control here. The opposition party is largely in their pockets too.

This article is just one example of the relentless and unashamed attacks on renewable energy here in the complicit media. They have discovered that they can straight up lie to the public and us idiots will swallow it hook line and sinker without question. That's why you get such ludicrous articles like this here in Australia.
