Since we are explaining things: an onion, like an apple is a fruit.

No one wants to hear it - that’s often a good sign it’s right on the money.

I consult in some companies that don’t even allow copy/paste in outlook. Like, these are actually MS security policies that can be set.

How in all of the actual fucks could they allow MS to see everything on your screen.

I agree with your non starter assessment.

Oh they got it.

Sure. I definitely do not disagree about the price but I wish you’d made it about that and not the art. Have a good Friday!

I mean bless you but that ain’t going to happen.

Many of those people need literally years of deprogramming and even then the prognosis is probably quite poor.

What would be more helpful is to give high school kids a mandatory course in digital marketing and communications. Let them literally see dollars rolling onto an account after something is posted online and monetised. No one seems so distinguish between ads and facts anymore. Seent it on Insta? Shit’s as real as the air you’re breathing, to many people these days. Given the opportunity to understand why someone would post BS online and to connect the dots that it’s literally for a few cents of attention I think that society would change for the better.

What’s fucking nuts is you’ll find MAGAS sharing Carlin quotes and jizzing themselves over his ‘all truth fuck your feelings’ approach to comedy. I kid you not, I seent it on that subreddit back in the day.

It’s true Carlin was fucking arrrested for his activism and yes it was to do with freedom of speech but he would have hated the fucking MAGA chuds with a burning passion-that much is obvious to anyone who knows anything about his work.

Perhaps more likely years of work with colour and colour theory preceding a quick output of some content? Why the sarcastic tone?

Could be, the man was a fucking genius hi created some of my personal favourite paintings.

Was that your point?

That is a measure of exactly nothing.

Your post makes it very clear that you have little experience in the creative world. There is no linear measure of successs or quality. You do a great disservice to those toiling with their creativity by making comments such as this one. We need artists, they are fragile things and should be treated with care.

I didn’t start this post planning to get hetup but I do feel that taking umbrage to your comment is fair, if not tautological.

I would encourage you to labour over a still life or wrestle a passable rendition of your favourite guitar riff. Try sing the first phrase of your favourite song in key. Trust me: none of those things are easy.

If you don’t like “Orange” then just look at something else and hold your tongue.

So after a run in with a moderator yesterday I’ve had some thoughts I felt I wanted to share.

I won’t name them here, you are welcome to look at my comment history and make up your own mind.

In this instance a user posted some misinformation. I don’t think they intended to, they merely perpetuated a myth, they clearly simply knew no better.

I tried to respond diplomatically, they doubled down, other users piled on, the downvotes are plenty and then I responded with an article citing evidence supporting my assertions.

I also stated that the burden of proof lies with the claimant and asked for some context on why they seemed dead set on the lie they were aping back, asking if they subscribe to other myth based beliefs, religions, etc. That post was unceremoniously deleted with no notice to me and no reasons given… until the user pointed out in another post that they are the sole mod of the community and warned me that they were “not afraid to ban” me should I “cross the line” in a very *‘I’m the sheriff of this here town’ *tone. Which gave me a chuckle.

That’s my side of the story, it’s all there if you want to draw your own conclusions. It really doesn’t matter who is right or wrong in a ‘someone is wrong on the internet’ spat but I did spot a chink in the fediverse through this incident.

The real point here is that this kind of behaviour is one of things that made Reddit fucking awful and I’d hate to see it flourish here in the fediverse.

I don’t have the solutions just some suggestions that I’d be keen to hear others opinions on:

  1. No moderation without representation. IOW: mods should be democratically elected.
  2. Mod elections should be annual and no mod should enjoy that status for life.
  3. There should be a mechanism for inducing a ‘no confidence’ mode election at any time otherwise the communities are likely to splinter into “real_” communities just as they did on Reddit which no community in the fediverse can currently afford.

What say you my brothers and sisters and everything in between? Is there a way to safeguard against cronyism, corruption and other frailties of the human ego?
