Good luck arguing it here. I wonder how many here are 16 or younger, or close enough to that age where they grew up with the technology constantly in their face and couldn't POSSIBLY imagine having lived without it.

Everybody knows the new console is coming and some are saying it's already being manufactured. They could just announce it already. The Switch is a great console, but it's no secret it's basically at EOL and after 7 years on the market it's sold about as many new units as it's going to.

Origins tends to be the "forgotten" title in the Arkham series since it wasn't developed by the same studio and doesn't feature many of the iconic characters/villains of the others (just Penguin, Deathstroke, Riddler and Joker), but IMO it's still a very good game that can be held up with the others in the series and can introduce players to a variety of other members of Batman's rogues gallery they may have not heard of before.

I just started it myself as my "spooky" game to play on Halloween. Even though I played the remakes of the other two, I especially got Ace Attorney vibes off the beginning of this one. I do enjoy the Famicom Detective Club games, but they have that really annoying quirk of needing to select the same option over and over, sometimes consecutively, to get through a whole dialogue.

Ah, yes, that infamous barrel. Claims many a hedgehog's life due to timing out. I did actually manage once or twice as a kid to get under it through fast and clever jumping, until I only learned in adulthood that you're supposed to move the D-pad up and down to control it. Really doesn't help that the game doesn't show you before how to control a barrel like that, and that stage can push players to the edge of danger timewise with or without that barrel.

I know a lot of people here are/will be mad at Musk simply for personal political disagreement, but even just putting that aside, I've never liked the idea of self-driving cars. There's just too much that can go wrong too easily, and in a 1-ton piece of metal and glass moving at speeds up to near 100 mph, you need to be able to have the control enough to respond within a few seconds if the unexpected happens, like a deer jumping in the middle of the road. Computers don't, and may never, have the benefit of contextual awareness to make the right decision as often as a human would in those situations. I'm not going to cheer for the downfall of Musk or Tesla as a whole, but they do severely need to reconsider this idea or else there will be a lot of people hurt and/or killed and a lot of liability on them when it happens. That's a lot of risk to take on for a smaller auto maker like them, just thinking in business terms.

Competitive Pokémon tends to go back and forth between times of "stall" (turtling) and hyper-offense (aggression) dominating the metagame, depending on which strategies and team builds players will find. Whenever one becomes dominant, fans of the other will constantly hound tournament runners to change tiering or ban certain pokemon to change it.

As for a "fun" game to go hyper-aggressive with zero HP, max damage, I've seen some YouTubers attempt "Danger Mario" runs in the first two Paper Mario games, maximizing FP and BP and never taking HP when leveling, keeping Mario in the "danger" zone where lots of evasion or damage badges will stay activated. They then rely on those badges, items and partner abilities to avoid taking damage.

Ditto here. NewPipe + VPN works fine on my tablet I use as a YouTube machine. The only problems have been when YT messes with stuff to try to block them, and then NewPipe will have it fixed usually within a day. And that doesn't happen as often as people think.

Well, no shit, that's what the rule is SUPPOSED to do! No more impossible-to-cancel subscriptions, please.

I don't know how "bleeding edge" it is, but Nobara is a good gaming distro maintained by GloriousEggroll (the maker of the GE versions of Proton on Steam) that also has a GUI driver manager. It's based on Fedora, so you're not gonna have the absolute latest stuff 100% right now as you might with Arch, but it will likely be ahead of anything Debian or Ubuntu based. The one drawback in my short experience with it so far is that the package manager sucks for exploring stuff or locating packages if you don't know the package name, it's just an alphabetical list you search through by name.

But as has been said elsewhere in this thread, if you're having driver issues with new Nvidia stuff, you may just be SOL until the Nvidia driver support in general catches up, no matter the distro.

What I mean is, whether or not there's going to be a visible graphical upgrade in the Switch 2. The console's existence has been known for a while.

Within console generations, change has indeed always tended to be gradual, but I think the point here is that we're talking about the step up to the next console generation, for which the visual difference in graphical power used to be very large, you could do a lot more on the newer console than the older one, but has become more gradual over time. Many already didn't see the need to upgrade to the new Playstation or Xbox from the PS4 or Xbox One, and a lot of their libraries were backported to the older consoles (granted, the consoles dropped during Covid so scarcity played a part in that but even after production picked back up they're not doing as well overall). The only console that could still likely make a big visual leap to a new generation any time soon is the Switch to the Switch 2, and we still don't have confirmation on whether Nintendo is even planning on such an upgrade. Just like the Wii, it sold like crazy while still being the least powerful in the generation because it had a knockout combination of utility and quality games. On the other hand, it is showing its age now, so if Nintendo doesn't make that upgrade who knows if the fans will continue to support it.

When I connected to the "fastest server" this morning, it appeared at first to connect me to a US server in Chicago. Then I visited a sports site and got the European version. Odd. So I went to check browserleaks, and lo and behold, for some reason or another I was in Czechia (is it still called the Czech Republic?). Anyway, I tried a few others in that range and they all go there. Also, I've mentioned in a couple places before, but various US-TX servers also act like they're in Europe, even though they do initially appear to be in the US, because even though browserleaks shows the Texas ones as a US IP, the network shows some European company so some sites treat them like Europe.

Since I started using Proton VPN, I've been using it to watch my favorite baseball team in my area and get around cable blackouts. However, today it appears MLB.TV has been able to find my location and black me out. I tried using 3 different servers and checked the geolocation on Browserleaks to verify that my IP was not leaking. One note: despite being listed as in the US state of Georgia, one server showed on Browserleaks as being in the UK, so you may want to double-check location anyway. I'm trying a reboot and if that fails I'll also try again tomorrow to see if somehow it's a strange anomaly. I've found that to happen with another VPN I used in the past.

EDIT: a reboot worked and it works now at least on the Colorado server I'm on. I do remember when looking at Browserleaks before rebooting that even when the location was picked up as in the US, it mentioned something about Europe in the company, so maybe the site still picked it up as in Europe?

I got this email earlier today in my inbox and wanted to be sure that this was not an attempted phishing scam. I didn't see anything about this on Proton's website, Reddit or Lemmy, so just wanted to cover my bases. Didn't click the link and just went straight to Proton's website to download the latest version and install (while also uninstalling the Flatpak I was previously using). If this is legit, Proton should probably make it more visible to the community by at least addressing it on their own website.

EDIT: I also checked the version number on the Flatpak and on the .deb versions I installed and it did indeed go up by one, so this does seem to lend it more legitimacy, but more acknowledgement would still be appreciated.

EDIT 2: According to comment below, this is indeed legit, thank you! If you're using the Windows or Linux version be sure to do the update!

I've been wanting to use the Falkon browser as my daily driver because I like the integration with the Plasma desktop and it works quite well for most things, but I've been hesitant to do so because there are so few extensions and the only privacy-focused one is the AdBlock. I've tried using GreaseMonkey scripts, but half of the few privacy-focused scripts I've found just don't work and I'm not good enough with scripting to really figure out why. I've set what I could in the Preferences menu for privacy, but I'm wondering if there is any way to access other settings to do things like disable WebGL and/or otherwise block trackers and prevent fingerprinting? If I can set it up to be reasonably close to Brave or LibreWolf privacy-wise, I'd be happy to use it more.
