Just coming back to this after sometime and I am eating my words on them not making a dumb decision making their users pay for social media accounts.

X said that they would make new users pay 1$ per month.

The article title says win, but the subtitle text says fully restore.

So it is the article itself that is misrepresenting the facts not the poster.

Just gonna suggest searxng as an alternative to kagi if you want something open-source, free, and still customizable.

Most searxng instances also index lemmy.

I don't know I think that it is giving a bit to much credit to these organizations. Yes they are big and powerful but they are still run by humans who both give these organizations their power and also are the weakest links of most organizations.

This is why most new systems don't come into power until the old ones become weak enough. Like capitalism was a thing during the times of feudalism for many years without necessarily replacing the main system but eventually as feudalism and the monarchy grew weaker eventually capitalism and meritocracy in some sense won out.

I mention this because yeah I agree that some sort of push back and fighting is going to be necessary but that alone isn't going to be the main driving force. The external conditions also need to be ripe and to me it seems like we are on the verge of something new occurring.

Germany and Italy are also big on giving aid to Israel so Idk if the EU is going to be able to help either.

If you scroll down it does give historical trends on comments, posts, monthly active users, etc.

What I meant is why do the graphs look so janky.

For example:

What happened in October 2023 that made so many users join?

and

What happened in February 2024 that made so many people stop posting?

Edit: March -> February
