What languages should a site start out with? (sh.itjust.works)
 

This is important in the future for me. Right now, I have a few forums which have a Spanish and Russian category and another site for my forum but in French.

Really? If that's true then OK unless you read it wrong. They have a point, I am just passionate about the small forum. They could use both.

(ProBoards forum) How to add text to a custom page? (sh.itjust.works)
 

Hello, I’m currently trying to figure out how to make an intro page for my ProBoards forum but can’t seem to figure out how to add text.

I can choose to add a post, but it keeps telling me “invalid Post ID” and I cannot find any sort of “post ID” except for the post URL and it doesn’t work when I type the URL in.

Can someone help me out? Thanks a bunch!

(Saw a post here before about this so) scientifically, why do we as people/organisms feel threatened by “erratic” behavior? (sh.itjust.works)
 

Maybe it’s like my experience: They act quite defensive and only hang out with a few people. It seems they feel threatened by “outsiders”. Even when they’re not hurting is, we in turn feel threatened as well. Why is that?

Often, these people themselves are seen as outsiders, maybe picked on, went through trauma, etc. And even I don’t want to feel such a way, but I do feel some sort of “uncanny valley” by their behavior.

How can I create a Lemmy instance without coding or the use of Ethernet/router wiring? (sh.itjust.works)

My Abuelo says:

  • he will not rewire things with the router

  • he wants me to find a way to create a Lemmy instance without Ethernet, just the regular Wi Fi connection without a router or anything.

This rules out what I was going to use, Yunohost. While I have the USB, I don’t have the router (it's full), switch, or Ethernet Cable and Abuelo doesn’t want to buy one nor does he want me to buy one.

He thinks it’d be less time consuming if I found a way to self-host without that stuff, just through Wi-Fi, and I don’t know how to program.

I cannot hook an ethernet cable to a router because the router is using all the plugs. What is a backup to make a Lemmy instance with Yunohost? If there’s no other way, what else can I use? (sh.itjust.works)
 

I have a USB stick with 32GB. However, I cannot hook an ethernet cable to the computer and router because all the router’s plugs are being used.

I'm gonna ask my Abuelo for a USB so I can run Etcher and Yunohost for my instance. I want to choose the name craigsworld.net (like how lemmy.world's creator chose lemmy.world). How does the site naming through Yunohost work? How much does it cost?

One of these days, I plan to create my own Lemmy instance. What’s the best way to filter out weirdos during registration? (sh.itjust.works)
 

I plan to have people type an application to register but will deny creeps and obviously bots. What would be the best questions to ask/way to tell that someone is a creep with ill intentions?

I have some ideas, but I’m looking for more, actual ideas from the Lemmy community. Ex: (if I make it a 13+ instance) What age range do you plan on interacting with? What do you plan on talking about with these people? What do you plan to do here?
