Kdenlive looks entirely too overwhelming for me lol, but openshot looks perfect! Thank you!

 

Windows Movie Maker used to be good enough, but for a while now it won't load mp4's anymore and I can't be bothered to try and fix it, and I'm really hating the online editors I've tried, so it's time to download some software!

Seriously - nothing complicated, at most I'm snipping clips to size, or cutting something out, so I need an easy to navigate preview and simple cutting tools, I can't even name any other editing action beyond "mixing" which I don't even intend to do, so you get my level haha

You're right, what my brain saw was

The default setting is now the desktop version

what it actually said was:

Firefox and Opera both allow you to view desktop sites in the same way as Chrome. Find the website you wish to visit and open the required app. From the menu on the top right corner, tap the three dots to request a desktop site on Android.
The default setting is now the desktop version. If you wish to change it, just reverse the steps above.

So ignore that part lol

It still implies that once I've switched it on, it should stay on though, which it isn't, so the question remains

 

From what I've read online this shouldn't even be an issue anymore since "desktop site" is meant to have been made default recently (edit: I was wrong this is not the case, see comments), but either way it isn't for me, and I'm getting really annoyed at having to re-toggle every tab to desktop every time I open the app. I can't find anything relevant in the general settings and both app and OS are up to date.
Am I missing something?

Took me a minute to find, but that's really great info, thanks!

I've already filled a complaint with the ICO since the company continued to refuse to delete my data, so we'll see what they come back with (their own guidelines say something very similar - "they should only ask you for just enough information to be sure you are the right person") if they side with the company I will definitely be quoting these guidelines.

I hit them with the fact that a person controlling the e-mail address can use their ‘Forgot password’ feature to take control over the account and access my sensitive data they’re in possession of or steal my identity using their own services.

this was their excuse to why they won't delete my info without proof of ID.
I told them no, I told them that if my bank or phone provider or online grocer who all have much more important and sensitive info, namely my payment/bank details, can verify me without extra documentation, so can they, they still said no.

So I've filled a complaint with the ICO, there's fuck all else I can do unfortunately..

Yeah, this is how it's always gone for me before, which is why I'm so taken aback by this company's demand..

Which they can by asking me to confirm who I am from the information they already have, the whole point is that they're demanding I provide additional documentation to prove my identity, which is complete overkill* and something that I have never come across, and shouldn't have to comply with.

But either way, if they need my ID before they'll provide my info, asking for it to try and catch them on a mistake only to be met by the same barrier (them demanding ID), it isn't going to work..

*(I can't deal with that document you linked right now, but the relevant governing body here (ICO) say "The organisation might need you to prove your identity. However, they should only ask you for just enough information to be sure you are the right person."

That's just not true, I've put through a ton of requests in the past, for companies that had much more sensitive data (like payment details) and have never been asked for ID.

Thanks for clearing that up, definitely not looking for compensation or anything, just for my request for deletion to be respected, but adding something like that to a complaint would definitely help. Thanks!

Considering the information I'm asking them to delete, yes.

 

Their reply to my request to delete my data:

Thank you for your email requesting your right to be forgotten.

In order for us to carry out this request, we require proof of ID to ensure we only action requests made by the genuine owner of this email account. Acceptable forms of identification are,

  • Recent utility bill from the last 3 months (e.g. Gas, Electric)
  • Valid drivers License
  • TV License within the last 12 months
  • Council Tax Letter within the last 12 months
  • Title Deeds
 

Apologies if this isn't the right community to ask in, I figured folks who use them would know, but if there is a better place to ask, please let me know!

So - I need to buy some external storage, and looking at prices and with the long run in mind, I was leaning towards a 18TB WD Elements or 16TB SEAGATE Expansion, but after looking at the reviews I am concerned about the noise levels, since I have sensory processing disorder, making me really sensitive to noise and this is going right by my bed and will hopefully function as an active backup, so will be always on.

Apparently there's a thing called Preventative Wear Levelling which will cause the drive to rev up every few seconds, and all drives (HDD anyway) do it, but it's the size of the drive that affects how much sound it makes, is that right?

If that's the case, is there a size drive where the noise becomes noticeable that I should stay under, or is it a case of trial and error and "my mileage may vary", and actually any drive could end up being noisy?

Alternatively, is there a quiet but affordable (in terms of ££ per TB, I wouldn't buy a significantly smaller SSD for the same price as those I mentioned, for example) alternative?
