So i recently got my first android phone after having been an iphone user for years. So far i am really happy and especially enjoy finding foss alternatives to as many apps as possible.

However i cant seem to find a gameboy emulator, one oft the things i missed on ios all those years. Mostly for gba games, maybe gbc too. Does someone here have a recommendation? All the ones i found on fdroid were incompatible.

retroarch stable. Download from website, ive had issues with the fdroid one. And then uninstall all your other emulators because retroarch will do them all. You can play old games with trophies too if you have a retroachievements account.

That would be convenient indeed, thanks!

You can check the emulation wiki and see which ones they recommend. I'm not sure which are available on F-Droid but most of them are available through a GitHub page

Your best option is Retroarch, it can emulate way more than just gameboy. But if you are looking for something lightweight and easier to use, try lemuroid https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.swordfish.lemuroid/

Retroarch? It's basically an emulator haven from what I've seen. I'm not an expert when it comes to emulators though. So if there is some kind of technical problem, disadvantage, something that makes Retroarch inferior to alternatives; I'm unaware of it.

This may be way more in depth than you need but this guide is very comprehensive.

~~Happychick is fire it's basically an app store mixed with all types of emulators u can literally just grab a game and play it without leaving the app~~ fuck happychick

No, Happychick is malware, stay away from it. All the emulators they use are stolen from the .emu apps, from MAME and if you want to play Nintendo DS it literally just installs a moded version of drastic.

It ask for a lot of permissions, including location and contacts.

You can also used it to download untrusted Roms and even android apps.

On top of that isn't even open source.

Thank you for your warning and I apologize for recommending something without being confident in it's quality.
