Reason: This isn’t news it’s just an opinion piece. Trash

People seem to have no idea who Jefferey Sachs is. Corporate-backed journalism only, please.

Jeffery Sachs in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), May 2022: A call for an independent inquiry into the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus

Special concerns surround the presence of an unusual furin cleavage site (FCS) in SARS-CoV-2 that augments the pathogenicity and transmissibility of the virus relative to related viruses like SARS-CoV-1. SARS-CoV-2 is, to date, the only identified member of the subgenus sarbecovirus that contains an FCS, although these are present in other coronaviruses. A portion of the sequence of the spike protein of some of these viruses is illustrated in the alignment shown in Fig. 1, illustrating the unusual nature of the FCS and its apparent insertion in SARS-CoV-2. From the first weeks after the genome sequence of SARS-CoV-2 became available, researchers have commented on the unexpected presence of the FCS within SARS-CoV-2—the implication being that SARS-CoV-2 might be a product of laboratory manipulation. In a review piece arguing against this possibility, it was asserted that the amino acid sequence of the FCS in SARS-CoV-2 is an unusual, nonstandard sequence for an FCS and that nobody in a laboratory would design such a novel FCS.

Same dude also jumped on the Robert F. Kennedy Jr podcast to push this idea and thinks Ukraine should cede its land to Russia. Source sounds like a mouthpiece for a certain agenda.

Um, wow, okay, Putler is genociding Ukrainians simply because he's evil, and you don't have the heart to donate a couple of dollars to Raytheon? Civilized people with blond hair and blue eyes are being killed, this isn't like those righteous Western holy wars across the Middle East. Have some decency and fill out your ballot for Biden then enlist to fight alongside the Ukrainian armed forces as they wear Slavic runes and type beautiful inspiring poetry about Putin being Voldemort and Ukrainians being Han Solo... unless you want Russian imperialism to spread across all of Europe and then the world? Yeah, didn't think so tankie.

Yes, a peace agenda.

Edit to add: Sachs probably knows more about Russia and Ukraine than every Lemmy user put together. He could give Biden’s own cabinet a run for their money. He was a major figure in the US neoliberal shock therapy of the post-Soviet states, as evidenced by his numerous mentions in the Wikipedia article.

But I digress: this post was about COVID-19.

Bet if I suggested the Palestinians just give up the West Bank for peace I'd get a different reaction from you.

Please just understand a little bit about things before you talk about them.

Is Palestine currently governed by a fascist coup gov like Ukraine's has been since 2014?

"Israel" is a western colony in Palestine. There's no similarity between these two situations.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Israel doesn't want to give Palestinians full and equal rights as Israeli citizens. Ukraine likewise doesn't want to give the people of Donbass full and equal rights as Ukrainian citizens, as evidenced by them banning political parties that were popular there and shelling their cities well before Russia was involved.

What has the Ukrainian government ever done to show that they're interested in governing the Donbass in the interests of the people living there? What has Israel ever done to show that they're interested in governing the West Bank in the interests of the people living there? There is no hypocrisy, you're just not examining the issues beyond a surface level knee jerk reaction.

its immediate dissolution would be a good start

This is bullshit. No credible sources outside the GOP caucus, and Rand Paul give any credence to this. Now, it is certainly the case that the #45 administration did a horrible job in response to the pandemic, certainly increasing morbidity and mortality, a problem that continues to this day. smh.

Jeffery Sachs is a primary source on this issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Sachs#COVID-19

In spring 2020, Richard Horton, editor of The Lancet, appointed Sachs as chair of its COVID-19 Commission, whose goals were to provide recommendations for public health policy and improve the practice of medicine. Sachs set up a number of task forces, including one on the origins of the virus.

The Lancet is referenced over a dozen times on Wikipedia’s main COVID-19 page.
