That’s a tough oversight, but how does that get by QA?

I've posted this before, but that protective boot is optional and not a part of the standard.
Probably because no one in there was using ethernet cables with snag protectors to design or test.
In fairness, if this was targeted to medium-large corporates they would expect to be using manually terminated cables which don't have that feature.
I'm sure someone added that type cable to the testing procedure after this though.
QA budget has been gutted. They can't afford the Bougie Ethernet Cables that come with boots.
Yea, either Cisco has shit processes that don't involve multiple checks after drawings are first made, or multiple people fucked up in checking.
I guess QA uses super old and worn out cables where these attachments have long since broken off...
Guessing QA test script does not specify which port to plug the ethernet cable into. So they choose whichever is closest to their dominant hand.
it's the other way around. that shitty gummy piece of crap on ethernet cables is annoying as fuck, and i even haven't had to plug it into network equipement that can be reset with it. but to reach the connector tooth under it often turns into a fight with gummy shitty 'protector' so i not once reached for scissors and cut that shit away.
Spot on
That micro-USB port isn't great either. And the leds seem quite hard to read.
I guess nobody fully assembled a prototype and tried to use it.
Not that it changes anything about its poor placement, but that looks like mini USB to me 🤓
Yep, Cisco uses Mini USB. For some reason.
(That's used for a built-in USB to serial adapter for console access.)
But I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. They also chose RJ-45 for serial port instead of DB9 as usual.
Ok, yes, it does.
... It's also upside down?!...
Does any USB variant have a "right" side up?
The USB symbol on the connector should be up. I think that means the wide side of a mini should be down, but I'm looking for a cable...
EDIT: and no, the one on the device is on the correct position.
Also: bike light manufacturers that make the button for the light impossible to feel with gloves on. Cmon, just add a bevel groove or something.
Stamets.... You still make up a decent percentage of my feed, what is this super sporadic that you speak of?
I've not really been posting nearly as much as I normally do. Long long periods of posting fuck all, really. Have been busy packing and was showing a friend around the city for his first time here.
Content creators on those other sites have to worry about post frequency… glad to say I don’t think folks who reshare around here are burdened with that!
Might say I believe that strongly enough we shouldn’t apologize for taking breaks.
Protect the Disconnect 😎
That’s a weird looking Ethernet plug
Is it?
Yes.
Bottom sockets are rotated 180 degrees so that the release tab will be below instead of between the rows where you can't press it to release.
