much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
Not if it's for legal compliance.
Oh, sorry. I meant to say "Haha, Windows sucks! Am I right guys? Updoots to the left!"
I use Arch, btw
I thought NixOS was the new “btw” distro.
You asked for it
I use NixOS, btw
Cool, I use Gentoo btw.
And Microsoft is known throughout the world as an honest company that follows the laws, complies with regulations and keeps it’s word.
I would say they are known for skirting the edge of the law, sometimes getting in trouble but usually not, or at least nothing serious. They don't outright break it, and the software re-installing might not break it. Whatever happens, you can bet they'll do the most anti-consumer thing they may be allowed to get away with.
And now they'll market it as their own humbling idea.
An Apple move for sure
Based on their previous behavior, they would act like a spoiled child.
That's also how Valve ended up allowing refunds on Steam.
Still I'm not going back to the Windows. Even if I do, Win11 wouldn't be my choice.
I thought they said it was an integral part of the operating system and couldn’t be removed. Are you telling me that Microsoft lied?
to be fair you always could remove edge, it just legitimately broke a lot of windows apps
I can +1 this, a looong time ago I tried uninstalling Microsoft Edge and it made the system go ballistic. Every time I clicked a link, instead of going to my default browser (Chrome then) it would just open a completely broken Edge window with no functionality. Any time I tried to change settings, it'd do the same thing. Anything to do with touching the internet got fucked. I spent hours trying to reinstall Edge, contacting a Microsoft support person who was useless, before I realized that the official site only provides the Windows download for Edge if you set your user agent with... any system other than Windows. Huh.
you could have used winget or chocolatey as well.
The same used to be said for Internet Explorer in the 90s.
They also said this during their anti trust thing in the 90s.
Portip: set your locale to Ireland and dont give windows your WiFi password on install. Boom, you're European.
Can we get that version here in Canada
You have a common border with Denmark, right? There might be a possibility there....
We do! We actually just ended the dispute peacefully a few months ago:

Yes...ended it...that's exactly what we want you to think. "muhahahaa..."
D:
Aw man, that was my favorite war
Maybe if Canada enter in the EU
Feel free to join the EU 😅
That's still a lot less than previous rulings. I remember when Windows was forced to tell users that alternative browsers existed and had to offer download links. I doubt many people beyond experienced users will take advantage of this.
Finally a reason to change from 10 to 11. This laptop will probably go to 11 for me, but my next PC is probably going to be linux.
Why wait?
Because changing your OS is always a hassle, especially if its from one OS family to another.
Sombody need to make somthing like nix-infect for windows
(It lets you turn any linux system into nixos)
Linux yes or yes, but probably in dual boot for several reasons (Drivers, certain needed soft, etc). The perfect OS don't exist, because of this using both, Windows and Linux is the best choice, depending on the use
If you get a PC to specifically run linux, you can make sure everything works well on it and avoid driver problems.
several reasons […] certain needed soft, etc
Does this law apply to Apple and Google?
I'm not sure if I like this news or not... It's good news for Windows users for sure... But somebody could think then "windows is not so bad" and lose the momentum to migrate to libre software, which is IMHO the future if we are to hope for a non dystopian one.
This should apply to Windows 10 as well right? How soon will this take affect?
is this only on EU or every windows install will be abel to do this?
