I literally see no ads on my computer or media player. Sometimes it's great to be a nerd.

Remember when one of the big selling points of streaming was that it meant you weren't seeing ads?
Netflix, which had insisted for years that it wasn't interested in advertising, is the most noteworthy pivot, but other streamers that launched ad-free, like Max/HBO Max and Disney+, have added ads to the mix as well.
And now, as streamers and customers get more comfortable with the proposition — and as streamers come under increasing pressure to deliver revenue and profits, instead of just subscriber growth — comes the next step: jamming more ads onto your screen.
This chart, using data from advertising research firm MediaRadar, shows you how ad loads — the amount of ad minutes per hour — have increased for many streamers over the past two years.
It's also worth noting that several of these streamers are either owned or controlled by the same corporate entity (Disney+/Hulu, Max/Discovery+, Paramount+/Pluto) and may end up actually folded into each other sooner or later.

Hopefully that ad revenue is mostly going to the folks who made the shows and movies and not just the streamers themselves
I'm running plex right now but Jellyfin is a replicas: 1 away
I made the switch this past year, and it was relatively painless. I even ran both concurrently for a bit just to make sure I had everything setup correctly.
So far Jellyfin has done everything I had Plex doing - and a bit more because I never paid for the Plex pass.
Only issue I've really run into is when ffmeg has an update if the server doesn't reboot I have to manually reboot it. But I think that might be more an issue with my install (Ubuntu 20.04)
Do you know if Jellyfin allows you to disable idle mode? I know Plex stops after 2.5hrs unless you pay for plex pass. That’s one feature that would motivate me to switch immediately. I’ve meant to switch but I’ve just been kinda lazy and putting it off for months.
It is disabled by default on Jellyfin. I put on Bob's Burgers for my pets when I'm gonna be gone for more than an hour or two. Plex would stop eventually. Jellyfin goes until I manually stop it.

That way of using the word streamer always seems odd to me.
I haven't seen an ad in a very long time, and I won't be seeing them soon either
