It is terrible if anyone is jailed without due process - even if they voted for this asshat of an administration.
All of these stupid articles highlight Trump voters so that liberals will jerk off about leopards rather than get angry that completely innocent people are being harmed.
I wonder how many of the people gloating in this thread have parents who voted for Trump.

I feel especially bad because that man was legally here and didn't even have a vote in this election :( like you said, even if he wasn't legally here, due process should be afforded to every soul.
Giving due process to everyone is the only way to ensure those who deserve it, get it. If they are for some reason not entitled to that right, then the due process will highlight that.

I'm guessing they all moved from Argentina, the parents went through the naturalization process while the son didn't (yet).
Still, you went through the immigration process, you know how many hurdles there already are in contrast to how the right likes to portray things, and you still vote for the anti immigration guy?

It says they came here when he was three. It doesn't state their status, but does say they voted Trump specifically to get rid of "illegal immigrants" that have committed crimes. Then the article goes into detail about how their son committed a crime and is on probation for it.

Children adopted by US Citizen parents automatically become US citizen upon adoption papetwork is finalized and uppn arrival in the US.
Adopted Children also become automatic US Citizen if, while they are Lawful permanent Resident and under 18 years old, one of their adoptive parents become a US citizen.
So this doesn't make much sense unless of very rare circumstance of the parents bringing in a kid and then not naturalize until the kid is already 18.

How does the kid not have citizenship tho? Green card holders under 18 automatically have citizenship if a parent become a citizen. Did the trump voter parent naturalize after the kid turned 18?

If their kid is a green card holder, then it can be reasonably assumed that the parents don't have citizenship either.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. There are two ways to get US citizenship: be born here or apply for it. It sounds like either they didnt apply for the son, or they did and it hasn't been granted yet.
Or maybe one parent is a citizen and "they" refers to that parent voting on behalf of the household.
I literally obtained derivative citizenship. I never even took an oath.

There is no specific order in which the conditions of the law must be satisfied for citizenship, so long as all conditions are met at a single point in time before the child’s 18th birthday.
Although this part is concerning:
A person born outside the United States is presumed to be an alien. As such, the person claiming U.S. citizenship has the burden of proof to establish by a preponderance of the evidence that they have met all requirements for citizenship.

There are some South Korean Adoptees who never became US citizen because the adoptive parents never applied, which is why this law was passed to make it automatic.
