U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he will temporarily waive tariffs on products from Mexico that fall under the North American free trade agreement, two days after launching a continental trade war.

The announcement did not mention Canada, which is also facing sweeping tariffs on all goods entering the U.S., despite Trump’s commerce secretary saying earlier that both countries would “likely” see a reprieve. It came shortly after Trump levelled new attacks against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following a heated exchange Wednesday.

“After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,” Trump wrote on Truth Social following a scheduled call between the two leaders.

Because isn’t there a recent article saying most of Tesla parts are imported from Mexico! Daddy Musk wants them cheap cheap parts.

The tariffs purpose is to damage Canada's economy in a severely misguided and ignorant plan to annex it.

He saw how the lagging economy ruined Trudeau's approval ratings and thinks that damaging the economy more will somehow magically make Canadians want to join the US.

As a single state no less.

Every part of the whole "51st state" plan is insane, but to admit Canada as one single unit is absolutely fucking bonkers. It's literally bigger in square miles/km than the United States. It would need to be at a minimum 10 states (one per province) but would probably benefit conservatives if they split up some of the more conservative provinces into more states.

I wonder how Puerto Rico feels having Canada be referred to as a state before them.

I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement

Um, not sure they were going to pay anything anyway...

[–] [email protected] 36 points 12 hours ago

Indeed, that's not how tariffs work. smh.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 12 hours ago

I know this is just bullshit his supporters will believe, but I'm starting to wonder if he's actually in on the con, or just a demented old man being manipulated.

It also occurred to me when he called Ukraine peace talks "doing business".

It's on the tap, right under the wall.

Congratulations to Mexico for stopping fentanyl and illegal immigration faster than Canada did?

God at this point you're such a fucken bitch about it. Either shit or get off the fucken pot.

He's already shat in the water.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 hours ago

Diaper. He shat in his diaper.

He and his circle already made millions on puts and invested the winnings back into a dipping market, now it's time to ease off the gas to drive the value back up. Repeat every week or two.

Who would have thought?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 hours ago

This HAS to be the only reason.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 hours ago

The Trump Tariff Dump & Pump. How long can he keep this up before countries stop reacting?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 hours ago

Seems a great idea until the day when is stops working.

According to an email from CSCB as of 1530 Eastern time, he's pausing tariffs on anything CUSMA eligible for Canada and Mexico until April 2nd.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 13 hours ago

Until next month right?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

What happened to, "no time for delay."

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 hours ago

The actual US president discovered one of his companies needs parts from Mexico.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 hours ago

Note that these are emergency powers he's using. Supposedly this is a crisis.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

This man has a brilliant mind. Our glorious leader knows all and will lead us to massive inflation and failure of all markets.

What are the chances this has to do with Tesla parts being manufactured in Mexico?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

The auto industry already had a 30-day exemption from tariffs.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 12 hours ago

Thank you for letting me know to look into that. My head is spinning so much with everything going on that I didn't know about or even consider such a thing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 hours ago

idk, Trump doesn't seem to give two shits about TSLA. The whole presidency doesn't seem to have been a great deal for Musk at all (assuming he's not eating out of the treasury or something). xAI doesn't get AI endorsement and oil industry takes priority over Tesla at every turn.

This uncertainty and flip-flopping is bad for business no matter how you slice it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 hours ago

Well he has a track record of bad business. Unsurprising.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It's good for those who profit from manipulating markets though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago

I get that but I still doubt there is some sort of plan coming out of this mans ass or that he is just senile.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 12 hours ago

between the two leaders.

I'm sorry, I only counted one.
