All Hail Abortion Eagle! Truly a sign of freedom.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Am I the only one that sees a crow?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Here's the thing. You said a "jackdaw is a crow."

Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.

As someone who is a scientist who studies crows, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls jackdaws crows. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.

If you're saying "crow family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Corvidae, which includes things from nutcrackers to blue jays to ravens.

So your reasoning for calling a jackdaw a crow is because random people "call the black ones crows?" Let's get grackles and blackbirds in there, then, too.

Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A jackdaw is a jackdaw and a member of the crow family. But that's not what you said. You said a jackdaw is a crow, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the crow family crows, which means you'd call blue jays, ravens, and other birds crows, too. Which you said you don't.

It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

A crowbar? That’s a coat hanger.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure we call that a "Swallow".

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

"The raven is bringing you an abortion!" - countries with women's rights and universal healthcare

Here in the US, we have to pay for that raven to make a visit, smh.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

Probably still get charged..

In college I had a coat hanger in a picture frame with a little sign that said "in case of emergency break glass"

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

Nah, that's a mute chicken.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 9 months ago

The official bird of the state of Texas.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 9 months ago

Careful. If you get more than one crow performing an abortion, it's murder.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 9 months ago (2 children)

For those who took too long like myself since I thought it was some kind of linguistics wordplay...

It's just implying that the eagle is doing abortions with a coathanger. So rather than giving babies, it takes fetuses.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah, honestly I didn't identify the coat hanger initially I thought it was some kind of branch.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

I've got a cousin who was born after a failed hangar abortion. Was born with all sorts of fucked up brain issues.

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

Punchline in the title? Check.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I didn't know what else to title it to be honest.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Just call it "stork rule" or whatever if you feel uncreative

[–] [email protected] 21 points 9 months ago (2 children)

That sounds worse to me... Especially since this isn't 196.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

196 adopted it from 195 so it's not like it's from 196 in the first place

[–] [email protected] 14 points 9 months ago

I feel like the title/caption is the setup and the picture is the punchline.
