Do people under 40 not buying bread?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 9 months ago (2 children)

They just download it from the cloud nowadays

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You wouldn't download a loaf

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

I totally would

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Soggy bread sounds terrible. Do they at least keep it in a bread box in the cloud?

This, is an occlupanid. To read further about the fascinating research on these, see the "Holotypic Occlupanid Research Group" (HORG) website. https://www.horg.com/horg/

Risky click of the day, but darn interesting!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Aren't humans great sometimes? :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Wait, there's not just one kind?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Indeed not! Australia has some interesting ones not yet classified, if you come across an occlupanid in your daily life that has not yet been classified and catalogued, you can contact HORG and send them in. :)

Mind blown.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Ridiculous. I'm only 35 and I can tell that this is obviously a Starburst with a hole punched out.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

If you were over 40, you'd call them opal fruits!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago

Still widely used in the Netherlands so everyone here knows.

That's what I was thinking. I lost one to my bagels last week.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

I’m sorry.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

Yeah that’s ammo (specifically 2 rounds) in the endless war to hit \ with a covert flick of the finger from across the room!

Do people under 40 just not buy bread in your world?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Still exists in cardboard form, not entirely sure why people wouldn't know what this is at basically any age, unless they buy no bread products?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

All the cool kids are doing keto and eating gluten free now

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Here in the UK, I don't think I've seen one of those in use for more than 20 years. Maybe it is still in use elsewhere?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

I don't think i've seen one. Even loaves from bakers 20 years ago were sealed using that little machine with strips of red sticky tape.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

I have a clear memory from the 80s for sure where these were routinely used on pre-sliced bread loaves. I'm sure I have seen them since the 80s. But they became much rarer for certain.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

At first I thought of course everybody knows, but the longer I was thinking: I haven't seen one in a long time

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

These are an essential piece of beach/holiday gear to fix your jandals(flipflops or thongs in Australia)with.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

Yes, but how many knows that you can break them in half so that the opening is split in two. Then sort of wedge it onto your finger and shoot them at unsuspecting siblings?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

under 30 maybe

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

What is that?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I know what it is, but I have no idea what it's called. Like, if I had to order them from the factory, I'd probably get the wrong ones.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

TIL these aren't used anymore some places. These are on every bag of buns at all the stores near me.
