They really dragged those scenes on that long eh?

I did kai on the rewatch, first watch I wouldnt do kai just because the fillers good imo

I stopped watching dragon ball after watching it whilst high and realizing how bmany scenes were a slow zoom on a few repeated frames accompanied by the voice actor sounding like they're aggressively dealing with a stopped bowel.

It's a similar problem with any of the "endless" anime. It's virtually impossible to sustain an interesting and coherent story over hundreds of episodes, so they almost inevitably have those annoying tropes they fall back on.

I know they're popular but I pretty much die on the hill that there hasn't been a good anime that has more than about 150 episodes (yes, that includes Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, DragonBall, etc).

I used to love Detective Conan. The anime came out in 1997 (the manga began in 1994) and it's still running. At first I watched everything, but after a few years and still hundreds of episodes I'd never seen, I gave up trying to watch each one. I switched to only watching plot-relevant episodes, skipping the many filler episodes. Eventually, I simply gave up and lost interest.

There are over 1000 episodes now.

Poor Shinichi has been trapped in the body of a 7 year old for 30 years. Dude deserves to go back to his old life already.

It's because the anime needs to avoid reaching same story as manga, so there's a lot of filler or extended scenes. Just read the manga for the series you list above and you'll see bug difference

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's definitely a difference, but even so there's a reason most stories aren't thousands of pages. The Japanese manga publishing cycle isn't conducive to promoting good art.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

There's a lot of good arts in long running Manga like One Piece or One Punch Man

Look, if you want the abridged version, watch Dragonball Z Kai. It's like 5 years shorter.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Or Dragon Ball Z Abridged. It’s even shorter!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

What do you mean "Semi-perfect"? You're either me, or you're not me. There's no grey area.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or Dragon Ball Z Kai Abridged

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I almost mentioned that one too!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am hilarious and you will quote everything I say.

Shhh Goku just been standing there quiet he hasn't done a thing, he is going to do something any minute I just know it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

He'll apply for AARP. Started that pose after potty training......which to be fair was at age 23.

I see dbz, I upvote.

I don't know what it is about this show, but there are moments that cause me to get chills that travel up and down my spine. Like Gohan confidently marching toward Cell with his one handed Kamehameha. Or Frieza realizing he pushed Goku a bit too far. The only other show or movie that has done that was maybe the first Matrix. Which.. if you think about it, contains very similar ideas. That being the only limit to your power is the one you place on yourself.

I can't help but tie this theme to lucid dreaming. In your dreams, you can have all these powers, but first, "You have to let it all go. Fear, doubt, and disbelief. Free your mind."

I do this with my nephew. It is quite something to be able to share our childish fantasy with someone else.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is totally me, my daughter, and my nephew with Pokemon.

Psyduck is so relatable. Just a simple duck, who's intelligent enough to understand how fucked the world is, but also intelligent enough to know there's not a damn thing he can do about crippling depression, and oppression of the masses into life swallowing poverty.

And he has the empathy to feel how dragged down the weight of the world is around him. He knows that people are having a hard time, and they look to pokemon to feel better. They're looking to HIM to feel better. Oh man. That's a lot of pressure.

People can't buy homes, health insurance is being denied, we're on the edge of world war 3, and all anyone wants is a reason to smile, and now they look at psyduck, to cheer them up. One simple pokemon with anxiety and mental health issues is now being asked to lift the weight of the world, as it comes crushing down on us all. And I can relate to that.

Psy-yi-yi indeed, my friend!

Daima has been some of the best DBZ content since... original Dragonball.

I wouldn't even call it nostalgia. It's just a good anime.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I was kind of annoyed by the first four episodes. By the fifth, I was loving it.

It's just fun adventures with kid Goku.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Well you just convinced me to give it a shot!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

A bit too predictable but still good fun.
