That's excellent, truly, but what about first party DRM?

Is it going to require the EA app when purchased on another platform?

Surprisingly apparently no. You can buy it on steam and it will just be steam. I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe EA has finally learned their lesson with single player games - but we'll see how DA4 is to verify that.

They even went out of their way to get SteamDeck certified

Well, that's awesome. I primarily game on Linux and steamdeck compatibility seems to largely carry over for my systems and no EA app is a definite plus.

Hopefully, the game itself is stable (Linux gaming not withstanding) and actually good, the marketing has been kind of hit or miss for me.

DA:O is still one of my favourite RPGs. I didn't like the two successors that much but the overarching story is quite intriguing to me. Sadly there has been a lot of staff shuffling regarding DA4. That's usually not a very good sign. I appreciate the lack of EA exclusivity and Denuvo but I'll still wait until some reviews are out. Remember kids: no preorders.

What a fantastic RPG game back in the day. I had an absolute blast playing that game, and now I kind of want to refresh myself on it thanks to your comment. I'm sure my way of viewing things has changed, and there are some choices in there that I will definitely do differently.

I had about 6 complete playthroughs and played ever race/origin prologue combo. Even made game the main topic back when I was in college and had a game design course. It was something completely new for it's time. Sadly I think it aged quite badly if you look at some mechanics, animations and even partly graphics. At least that's what came to my mind when I replayed Mass Effect 1 when the remaster launched. In my memory it was a better game.

Now that is some dedication! I did the human path before, but I might go elf this time around!

It came out awhile ago, so I’m sure it did age badly. Luckily there are mods that can soften the rougher edges for us to still get as much enjoyment as we can!

That was what was kind of making me suspicious. They said steam deck verified but I expected a shitty EA launcher that would make launching it on steam deck at least annoying, possibly even impossible. So if they DON'T have a launcher...that's amazing. Hopefully true

Okay, but to be honest DRM was not really something that was stopping me from buying it in the first place.

It stopped me from buying those games, because while the first one is DRM-free, the second and third games have an always online requirement. Now it's the DRM of those middle two games preventing me from playing any of them.
