Yet he did nothing to stop the FDA from decimating the market by putting 95% of companies out of business while he was president. He's so full of shit.
They hadn’t bribed him enough that time. It should be blatantly obvious to everyone that he will do or say anything anyone wants if they pay him enough. He’s bought, and that’s a huge national security risk. No security expert would ever willingly provide him with a security clearance, but here the brain dead half* of Americans go with attempting to re-elect the guy who sold Israel’s nuclear secrets for 2 billion dollars after leaving office.
The Planet Money episode on this was an interesting listen. If I remember correctly, after the bans he held this weird discussion group at the White House where everyone just talked over each other, and he ended it completely noncommittally.

Of all the things that need saving, flavored vapes are... not on that list.
Unpopular opinion on lemmy but why not? Kids are gonna get their hands on nicotine no matter how hard it's regulated, same with booze and weed and cigarettes. Banning flavored juices just pisses off a lot of older vapers like me that have been vaping for years. I originally started to quit cigarettes, which I smoked for 6 years, and now 8 on the vape.
If I wanna poison my lungs, what business is that of anyone else's? Don't try and give me that bullshit about "think of the children" either, they're gonna get their hands on nicotine regardless whether that be through vaping or smoking. Vapes are the lesser evil, my lungs don't feel nearly as shitty as they did when I was smoking cigarettes. Anecdotal obviously and there aren't any long term studies on the effects of vaping (as far as I know at least) but I don't lose my breath walking up a small flight of stairs the way I did when I was smoking a lot.
You ban flavours and you're just pushing that to the black market. Sure I could just quit but that's insanely fucking hard and I've tried multiple times, and quite frankly I just don't want to at this point. My life sucks enough, let me have my fruity vapour for fuck sakes and quit trying to ban shit, the alcohol prohibition didn't work, keeping weed illegal didn't stop people from getting it, you're just taking a highly taxable product off the market. I don't wanna smoke nasty ass cigarettes, I like my peach flavoured vape juice.
I know lemmy has basically zero sympathy for nicotine addicts so I'm sure this will be heavily down voted but I just wanted to voice my opinion. Fuck off and let me live my life how I want to live it. Lung cancer or liver failure is basically my retirement plan since I'm otherwise gonna work until I drop dead anyways.
Edit: But I fully support banning disposable vapes. They're a huge waste and banning them would raise the barrier of entry for people that want to vape. I have to change my cotton every few days and change my coils every month or so, and it's fairly easy to mess up. Even premade coils with cotton already in them are a barrier to entry, I know a 30 year old dude that went back to smokes cause he's too lazy to buy new coils and change them when they start tasting bad.

Plus the "think of the children" that works is reducing exposure (no ads, no sponsorships, etc) and making it look uncool.
I agree completely. I don't want anyone let alone young people getting addicted to nicotine, but a straight up ban isn't gonna stop it. When I was a teen it was easy for me to get someone else to buy me smokes or booze or weed, just needed to pay a runners fee which was perfectly fine to me back then. Kids are dumb (so was I, no shade) they're gonna do what makes them look cool and helps them to fit in with their peers.
Idk what the answer is tbh, but straight up bans aren't it. That's just pushing it to the black market and taking away taxes.
Like everyone else's saying, besides disposable vapes there's nothing worse than smoking about vaping, and many people enjoy it responsibly. And in case I need to include this, Trump is still a fucking idiot even if he appears to support for the time being a thing I like.
Disposable vapes need to be saved. And by saved, I mean completely banned.
It's definitely a weird thing to brag about.
Let's buy a couple of Trump NFTs and create a line called "Trump-meme vapes" where we put Trump's NFT on the label and a meme used by Trump supporters. We'll offer beautiful-sounding flavors such as:
- Ocean Breeze
- Champion's Dinner
- Billionaire Mystique
Which will actually taste like:
- fish
- happy meal
- poop

It makes me sick to say it, but Trump is right on this one. If the FDA hadn't cracked down so hard on open systems, sketchy disposable vapes wouldn't be as prolific as they are now.
The FDA implemented the PMTA (Premarket Tobacco product Application) process. This means that anything vaping related must get their approval before it can be sold in the US.
This sounds good on the surface, but it's not for two reasons: products without nicotine are considered tobacco products, and literally every SKU has to go through the process.
A single application costs over $250,000. This means if you are an eliquid manufacturer and have 5 flavors with 4 different strengths each, you have to submit 20 applications. That money is gone if you don't get approved, and the FDA has only approved a handful of them.
This caused nearly every reputable manufacturer to close shop and left the sketchy companies who will just rebrand after getting shut down.
All of this for a product that legitimate studies show is 95% safer than smoking.
When did the FDA finalize that policy? January 2, 2020.

Ya know, I've heard of all this before but all the vape shops I've been to have been... practically unaffected, with all the flavors and mods, coils and such one wants. Are they all just running until they get shutdown? Lol
Its a lot harder to shop online, but yeah, local vape stores havent had any issues stocking it would appear. Candy king and custard monster seem to be uneffected.

I had to look up the PMTA as I’d never heard about it. Wasn’t this implemented back in the 2000s?
They were given the ability in 2009, but they didn't apply it to vaping until the 2010s
