Some rockets landed near the city of Haifa, as Israel and Hezbollah appeared to be spiraling toward all-out war following months of escalating tensions.

"Months of escalating tensions" is such a disingenuous framing.

People supporting the genocide of Palestinians in the comments I genuinely wish the worst upon you. You're terrible people

I have enough people blocked that I see none of that. It's nice.

And shit gets worse.

I can kind of sort of get why Israel would be launching a war against Hamas right now. I cannot even kind of sort of get why they think now is the time to attack a totally separate military opponent.

They've done enough damage to Gaza that they can start squeezing in without having to kill everyone.

Now they're pivoting to do it in the West Bank and Lebanon.

Keep your eyes peeled, if this is successful, the Golan Heights is next.

Rockets? Don’t you mean missiles?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They do have precision guided missiles but didn't use any in this attack.. While AP does call them missiles in the article they are actually unguided heavy rockets.

And as I was trying to figure this out I discovered that most news sources use the words rocket and missile interchangeably, often in the same sentence, and it's fucking infuriating.

Actually they ALWAYS say Israel has missiles and Hezbolah/Hamas has rockets. I believe they do this to make it seem like they are barbarians hiding behind a hill shooting off handhelds. I am sure they have more sophisticated systems and to keep reporting it that way is biased and inaccurate, despite whoever they might support. 🙈

I certainly don't pay enough attention to say you're definitely right but it certainly feels like the headline is always rockets. but how much of that is because it's always rockets? missiles are far more expensive and Israel is pretty good at shooting them down so why burn that kind of cash?

But also, can you point to a case where it was actually missiles? because this isn't it and I'm actually interested.
