Gotta keep the reserve army of labor in squalor.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah but some people find them boring to look at so we have to keep building prisons instead.

Holy fuck. Spot on. The fucking hand wringing about "Soviet block style" housing.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I meet plenty of people in Poland that tell me these buildings are ugly. Every single time I have to quip them with comparisons on how homelessness must be so beautiful then. I don't know how these idiots exist honestly.

Base and Superstructure.

the most maddening thing is, they dont even look bad, when they werent run down they looked just fine no more interesting or boring than the average building block in an imperial core capitalist country. Where im from there were a few massive commie blocks in my neighborhood and no one, fucking no one ever complained about them looking plain, people didnt give a shit and it was a nice place cuz it had parks around and plenty of open spaces, overall it was a nice place, and lively, way better than suburbia.

Those are beautiful. What city/country?

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Top is new york

Bottom is singapore, I think

Reverse image search says yes, Singapore.

That bastion of socialism.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Assuming the bottom is Singapore, it's not like Socialist Countries are known for high rates of homeless people, the public housing programs are well-known and documented. It would be a better meme if it was an AES country shown, of course, but public housing is the solution AES countries have gone with to massive effect, meaning the meme is still correct in message even if it's an error in delivery.

Looks more like the DPRK style, but Singapore also has some really nice social housing though not on the scale of China, Vietnam or North Korea

It’s the famous socialist nation of Singapore according to other commenters

I mean they both solve the problem; it's just one is a Western solution and the other is humanity's solution.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago

They absolutely don't both solve the problem, plenty of homeless people in the capitalist world compared to the 0 people in former USSR

Everyone is afraid to admit that free necessities for all is the way.

The abusers and exploiters need that fear of destitution to drive you towards them and their unsafe unjust working conditions.

The greatest freedom in life is the ability to say no.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

It's baffling how often we overlook the importance of negative freedoms, such as freedom from poverty and the fear of illness or a lack of financial security in old age. These are tangible, real-world freedoms that directly impact our quality of life. Meanwhile, we're constantly told that the ability to express ourselves is the ultimate form of liberty. It's time to reevaluate our priorities and recognize the true value of actual tangible freedoms.
