Pan fried is definitely on the menu
Enjoy! ☺️ I wish I could have some lol
You could also try leaving a sprinkler watering your plants. I've managed to get tomatoes through mild (and some not so mild) freezes that way.
Roasted green tomato salsa is excellent
That sounds delicious, do you have a favorite recipe?
Apologies, I did not see your reply sooner! I basically cut the tomatoes into quarters along with an onion and bell pepper(s) plus halved jalapenos/any other peppers depending on how spicy you want it. Add a head of garlic too with the top cut off. Spread all of these veggies on a foiled cookie sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and roast in the oven at ~450F for 20-30 min until the edges start to brown. Then let it cool a little and blend it up, adding lime/lemon juice, salt, pepper, cumin, and cilantro to taste.
What's nice is you can roast whatever you have on hand, and it comes out slightly different each time. You can jar it for longer storage as well :)
This sounds delicious, thanks for sharing!
Shit you have tomatoes? Mine haven’t even done much yet and our first frost is anytime now as well, but it’s also typically the hottest month… meaning yeah 36c during the day, but can also freeze and/or snow the next day.
We had an super late frost as well as well as a heat wave, so anything cold weather bolted and anything hot weather got stunted for a bit.
Yeah it was a weird growing season. I’ve got about 12 tomatoes between 2 plants. One plant I grabbed from the store’s cherry tomato section this spring and didn’t notice until I got home its tag said Big Boy. Since it’s about a 40 minute drive to town I decided to just plant it and hope for the best.
I grow mine in planter boxes and usually get 55 day varieties. And I try to get the plants in about mid-May under plastic tents to get a jump start.
Prep some fried green tomatoes! After breading I pop them in the freezer on a tray and then move to a container. When ready to eat you then cook them like normal. I didn't grow tomatoes that will work well for them this year and I'm bummed. I wish you all the luck in your green tomato adventures.
Yum, freezing some is a great idea
