The 4 stages of a day off;

  1. Identify day off. (It'll be Wednesday!)
  2. Identify all the shit you need done before the next following workday (laundry, meal prep, shopping)
  3. Get all that shit done between now and then (looks like I'm shopping Monday afternoon, meal prepping Monday night, hitting "start" on laundry Tuesday afternoon after getting home and throwing work clothes in)
  4. Day off!

This post brought to you by treating my ADHD with prescribed stimulant medication (and my refusal to take it on days off, even if that means I sleep all day because I'm all unfocused).

I've learned long ago I need one do-nothing day a week. Bible was on to something.

Today is my day off. It is noon and I'm at number 2.

My wife actually does things on her days off. It really doesn't mesh with my desire to just relax.

For the first time in a while, this hasn't been me! Small victories.

I’ve fallen into this habit way too launch on weekends. It’s been too long since I got anything done and the chores are piling up.

I do have a couple partial excuses though, that at least shows my priorities right:

  1. My younger kid keeps wanting to do all day activities with me. He’s going into his senior year in high school so this is the last few precious moments before he leaves the nest
  2. I got a smoker! Whether it’s for my kids memories or just my own skill/hobby, I might spend an entire Saturday making dinner. It’s not just the slow cooking, but every side and the dessert are both more ambitious and go on the smoker. For example: for the next meal I have a macaroni salad recipe that starts with : “warm up the smoker and preheat a cast iron skillet…”

I bail at step 3 with "I'll do all that stuff next weekend."
