My recent experience is that it costs $250-$300 an initial appointment and around half that for follow up appointments with Medicare (aus public medicine) rebating about $50 per visit.
The government, private health insurers and physicians themselves could all play a more active role than they currently do
The government certainly should. I'm not so sure about private health insurers. If anything, the government needs to stop the ridiculous mob-like behaviour threatening people to get private health insurance "or else".
