Found out yesterday my wife has to have an amputation... again. :(

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Sorry to hear...

It feels wrong to upvote this. Hoping for a successful procedure and gentle recovery.

Nothing special, just woke up and went to office right now writing this comment. did some configuration of zsh, vscode to make it a good experience to debug Odoo software.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

This comment about odoo software made me think of that Bowie song from labyrinth where he says "voodoo who do you do the power of the baaabe!"

So things are really looking up.

Missed my train back home, now I've got to wait 45 minutes in the middle of nowhere.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Maybe the universe thought you needed 45 minutes to just sit, chill, and look out at things you don't normally see.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

I used the time to continue reading my book. :)

Let me flip this and ask you OP how is your week going so far?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Pretty good, nothing too special, thanks for asking!

Two more days at the old job. It’s going slower than molasses. Usually there is hoopla planned when someone leaves this team but I haven’t heard anything about that happening. I can’t decide if I rather duck out quietly or do the hoopla.

This weekend there is a big block party happening near me. I said I wasn’t gonna go but I changed my mind. I like getting out and going amongst people sometimes.

Visiting the head office, something I don't do very often. Mostly to give people a proper farewell and go through the offloading regarding my work laptop et al. Tomorrow is my last day here.

"It's visible that you're field crew. It's not often that people hand in their laptop, and the dirt is in the outside instead of covering the keyboard. On that note, once it's off the domain you can keep it, we don't need it".

So I guess I'll be using the same laptop in my new job, starting Monday.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’m starting a new job on Monday too - with the same laptop. Will you still be working in the field or are you trading that for indoors?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Same as before mostly. Maybe a little bit more home office. I expect maybe 80% supporting the operations from home, and 20% in a port somewhere on the other side of the world. I like it that way: Either I'm seeing the world, or I'm chilling at home.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

That sounds ideal.

My brother is coming tomorrow! We're gonna hang for a day then go north and hang with the rest of the fam. So exited, haven't seen him for a year!

Spent the week doing tours with wifey, gaming like a maniac, catching up on some documentaries, and being glad for not having to worry about kids or pets or anything else 😊

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm excited at your dearth of excitement! Enjoy the off time!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Dearth of excitement? I sometimes wish for a bit less excitement :-) But the day only has 24h and there are so many hobbies to pursue....

Got Influenza A. My wife and daughter too. Shit's fucked. Haven't felt this sick since COVID in 21. And we even had our flu vaccinations a month or 2 ago... So must be some other strain.

Been working on cleaning out my mom's house. Called a guy for what i thought was a small repair. That turned into $10k (that i agreed to and am now scrambling to find) and led to a foundation repair estimate of $25k plus expected plumbing issues. I don't really want to sell it but not sure i can afford to keep it. Sad, frustrated, still have a tremendous amount of stuff to donate/sell and much cleaning to do. Grateful that i have summer break to do it so there's time to appreciate the memories. Also happy that my son is living there, covering the mortgage, and having a nice, safe home that he wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.

@[email protected], it's your lemmyversary tomorrow, but I might forget about it, so wish it to you now, happy cake day! 🎉

(Also my instance still has the leap-year-1-day-too-early-cakeday bug)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Aww thanks <3

Found out today that some of my coworkers are antivaxxers who just got the required COVID shots for work, and they spent lunch gaily chatting about how it's not needed while I seethed. I will be avoiding them from now on.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Free warning, seeth not, be happy you know...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just embarassing because I work in health care.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

K, seethe mildly with justification, but enjoy it :)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

People like this make me lose faith in humanity.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Blithely assuring each other that it's not needed, as if millions haven't died. Another coworker is super upset because she lost 15 family members in India pre vaccine to COVID. The ignorance is real and I shall eat elsewhere now.
